  • Cards take down Rockets; sweep Loboes

    Kyrie Dauenhauer and Erik Gjovik|Sep 30, 2024

Although the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets and the Carrington Cardinals are in different regions, the rivalry is still aflame. On Thursday, Sept. 19, the Rockets hosted the rivals to the south during the Cardinals' homecoming week, in hopes of being named the homecoming crushers once again. After three games, the Rockets were still working out their kinks and trying to get a good rotation locked in. With that, NR-S senior Tillie Swart made her varsity debut during the second and third sets...

  • Guest: Teach your kids to be kind to all

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Aug 19, 2024

School is officially starting for New Rockford-Sheyenne, Carrington and many other area schools this week. With school starting, that usually means taking pictures for the newspaper at the local football and volleyball games. However, my schedule this year will be just a little different. My first-born, Peyton, will be starting pre-K at New Rockford-Sheyenne school this year. She is quite excited for this new adventure and so am I, but I can't say that I am not getting teary-eyed thinking that...

  • The relay of life

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Jun 3, 2024

Over May 23-25, I attended my third North Dakota State Track and Field Meet for the New Rockford Transcript as a photographer. The first state track meet I ever covered was the year my stepbrother, Kaden Jensen, was a senior. This was the first time Kaden had ever competed at the state level as well. Kaden made the podium for three-of-four events that year. In his individual events, he took second place in long jump, seventh place in high jump and ninth place in triple jump. He also ran as the a...

  • Hornets Buzz: Rockets come out on top, 60-40

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Jan 22, 2024

After a week off, the New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets were back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 16 on their home court against the Harvey/Wells County Hornets. After the recent three-class system change, the Hornets are no longer in Region 4 with the Rockets. They are now included in Region 4 alongside Bishop Ryan, Drake-Anamoose and Our Redeemer's, to name a few. This season, the Hornets have quite the underclassmen team, with only one senior on the roster. Besides senior Breanna Heilman, the...

  • Cards hold off NR-S, escape with win

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Dec 4, 2023

The New Rockford-Sheyenne girls' basketball team kicked off their season on Monday, Nov. 27 against the rivals from down the road – the Carrington Cardinals. However, due to the new 3-class system, the Cardinals are now placed in the Division A, Region 2 bracket and the Rockets are placed in the Division B, District 4 bracket. But the division didn't matter in this matchup. The Rockets took a strong 6-point lead in the start of the first quarter with baskets scored by NR-S seniors Kelsie B...

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Feb 13, 2023

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted the District 6, Region 3 Medina/Pingree-Buchanan Thunder. After the Rockets' recent losses against the Carrington Cardinals and the North Prairie Cougars, they were itching for a win. The Rockets came out in the first quarter, scoring 11 points against the Thunder, only allowing them to score a total of eight points. With five drives to the basket by Kelsie Belquist in the second quarter, along with 3-pointers from Kaiya O'Connor and Katie Allmaras, the...

  • Rockets take sting out of HWC Hornets

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Jan 23, 2023

Here's the buzz. The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets traveled to Fessenden on Tuesday, Jan. 10 to take on Super Region 4 competitors, the Harvey/Wells County Hornets, in their nest. After losing to H/WC at the annual CNDC tournament back on Dec. 1, the Rockets knew they had to work harder to push past them. Kelsie Belquist and Kaiya O'Connor blasted out of the gates for the Rockets, with Belquist swishing two field goals and a free-throw and O'Connor swishing one field goal and one 3-pointer....

  • Rocket-powered rout

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Dec 26, 2022

The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans on Monday, December 19 for their first home game of the season. This season looks different for the Lady Titans, who are short a senior athlete. Three days into basketball season, Andie Anderson suffered a knee injury, which ended her basketball career as a Lady Titan. The Rockets were amped up and ready to take on the Titans. Out of the floodgates, the Titans were under full court pressure by the Rockets. This led to many...

  • G-M boys edge NR-S, 48-46

    Kyrie Dauenhauer|Dec 26, 2022

Unlike the night before where the New Rockford-Sheyenne girls took down the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans, 75-29, the matchup of the NR-S boys' basketball team and the Griggs-Midkota boys' basketball team was more of a nailbiter. Like a flash of lightning, they were off, as a three-pointer was swished by Brady Haugen for the Titans. Not even seconds later, another three swished, this time by Griggs-Midkota senior, Benjamin Edland. The Titans scored many points from beyond the arc throughout the...

The Rockets decided to switch up their rotation again, with Ava Peterson, Kaiya O'Connor and Madisen Myhre all changing positions; Peterson at setter, O'Connor at outside hitter and Myhre at right side hitter.
