Call it climate change, call it a long-term weather cycle, you can even call it a coincidence. We can argue about it all day and make it a political football. But there is no doubt water is becoming a serious issue in the western United States, despite recent heavy rain and snow in California. This drought phenomenon has been discussed, on record, here in North Dakota, for at least 20 years, but people appear to be disinterested. In 2003, a group of North Dakota and eastern Montana farmers...

If he sees his shadow, his Inner Circle organizers allege, there will be six more wee...

Dear Savvy Senior, I had dental insurance through my work for many years but lost it when I retired and joined Medicare. Where can retirees find affordable dental care? Uninsured Al Dear Al, Unfortunately, about two-thirds of U.S. retirees don’t have dental insurance today. Without coverage from traditional Medicare, and with private dental insurance typically costing too much to be feasible, most seniors are stuck paying full out-of-pocket prices every time they visit a dentist. In last week's Independent, a three-way tiebreaker scenario was explained, where the Carrington girls' basketball team could still earn a number one District 5 seed even with a narrow loss to E-K-M, and if Oakes were to win their final two games. Turns out, the Cards were in no mood to do the math. With a 49-41 win over the Rebels, Carrington rendered that point moot, finishing with a perfect six wins in six outings in district play and earning a first-round bye in next week's tournament in...
