Dakota Datebook written by Jayme L. Job. Fargo newsboys were shocked to learn of a betrayal among their own ranks on February 10 in 1907. A bundle of newspapers had been stolen from the depot of the Great Northern station on this evening, and several of the city’s newsboys were under suspicion for the act. The Fargo ‘newsies’ had “long enjoyed a most enviable reputation for honesty and the theft of [a] bundle of newspapers by one of their number caused considerable alarm.” The newsies were insistent on finding the culprit, and actively...

The current makeup of the LaMoure/Litchville-Marion boys’ basketball roster has seen success no matter what sport they’re currently playing. State champions in nine-man football this past fall, along with winning Class B, American Legion and Babe Ruth Baseball crowns, the Loboes are quite the cohesive stable of athletes. One half of basketball was all it took for L-L-M to assert themselves as the ‘alpha wolf’, and took a 61-42 win over Carrington January 28 in the East Gym. Like it has gone in...
The HWC boys’ basketball team made giant strides in this week’s action, picking up two District 7 victories and moving to 5-0 in district play and 11-2 overall. The Hornets showed signs of explosive play, but allowed New Rockford-Sheyenne and Warwick to come from double-digit points down to either tie or take the lead against them. Some positives to that were the ability to fight off the challenge and persevere for the victories. HWC 55, NR-S 49 Tuesday, January 25, saw the Hornets travel to...
Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier was living the high life for quite awhile in Class B girls' basketball. Winners of their first 14 games and soaring all the way to #7 in the statewide polls, the Rebels would end up being humbled by another Region 3 title contender, Linton-HMB, by a 57-32 margin. And for a time in the first half in their January 28 game in Kulm, it looked like Carrington could make enough plays to defeat them once more. E-K-M steered their season back on track with a 34-21 second half...
The HWC Hornet girls picked up a big victory over the Warwick Warriors this past week, earning their first district win of the season. HWC also showed signs of improvement as they played both Kidder County and Carrington tough for the majority of the games before having those teams finish strong for the double-digit victories. HWC 63, Warwick 18 A great start by the Hornets sealed the game early on, as HWC cruised to a 45-point victory over the Warriors in Warwick on Tuesday, January 25. HWC...
The traditional final event of the Class B regular season on the mats transpired once again in New Salem with the East-West Tournament Saturday, January 29. And for the Carrington Cardinals, it represented one more chance for the team to improve their possible individual tournament seeding should their grapplers advance to the State B in Fargo in mid-February. Two wrestlers came out on top for the Cards in New Salem, those being 113-pounder Trace Hoggarth and Michael Clifton at 182 pounds. Both...
