Harvey-Wells County took a limited squad to the Hazen Early Bird Invitational meet on Saturday, April 9, and came away with a couple of state qualifiers to start the outdoor season. Madden Thorson finished first in both hurdle events and also met the standard for the state meet, running a 15.38 in the 110-meter high hurdles and 41.56 in the 300 hurdles. The Harvey-Wells County junior high track and field team saw action Friday, April 8, at the Underwood Sports Complex in Underwood, N.D. Braylee Keller picked up event wins in the 100 and 200-meter hurdles for the girls’ team, as the Hornets finished in second place. The girls’ 4x200 relay team of Brooklyn Dockter, Aubree Rudel, Aubrey Thorson and Rachel Neumiller also claimed the event title. The Carrington High School girls' softball program is a first-year team under the direction of Head Coach Sara Laib. The Cardinals were scheduled to play the team's first game on April 11 in Cavalier against Pembina County North, but the game was postponed due to weather and will be played on Tuesday, May 10. A few creative souls crafted a snow Easter Bunny to commemorate the furry colored egg-bearing ambassador making his appearance for another year. On Tuesday, May 3, Carrington High School will host its annual Arts Expo to premiere the fine arts accomplishments of CHS students. Five Mathletes from Carrington competed at the MATHCOUNTS state competition held on March 28 in Bismarck. Qualifying for the second year in a row were eighth graders, Jacob Boeshans (son of Brian and Angela) and Molly Hansen (daughter of Jory and Missy).
