She taught me how to read a recipe, start the oven, set the temperature, measure ingredients and adjust the mixer speed. “My treats didn’t always turn out because I either forgot an ingredient or measured incorrectly. Tom Kalb, NDSU Extension horticulturist|Oct 7, 2024

Would you like to grow a special flower in your garden? Something that is eye-catching? Something that is unforgettable? A team of gardeners and I have tested hundreds of annual flower varieties across North Dakota over the last 15 years. This included trials at the Dragonfly Garden in Bismarck. Whenever I provided visitors a tour of the Dragonfly Garden, someone would inevitably walk over to a stunning group of plants that towered like statues above the rest. They would ask, "What is that?" It...

    Amy Wobbema|Oct 7, 2024

Cinnamon is in season. We're making apple pies with apples harvested from our backyard trees and pumpkin spice lattes are the flavor of the month on the menu at the local coffee shop. They’ve always been along the northern tier of counties, most generally in the Turtle Mountains near Bottineau and in the Pembi...

Most of the origin stories are heartwarming and noble, although a few are undeniably embarrassing. (“Um, I heard somewhere that the Tribune and the Intelligencer have a Joint Operating Agreement, and I thought I might be useful, you know, operating the joints, dude. Imagine...

  • Back in the winner's circle

    Erik Gjovik|Oct 7, 2024

Two devastating Class A – Region 2 losses by three total points didn't afford the Carrington Cardinal football team a wealth of time to feel sorry for their predicament. The bus ride up Highway 281 stopped in Belcourt for a matchup with former Class AA league opponent Turtle Mountain, and the Cards hoped the newly-installed turf would allow their team speed to take over. CHS got back into the playoff conversation with a 42-16 win over the Braves, on another big offensive performance netting j...

A humbling defeat (a 3-0 loss to a strong May-Port-CG team in Finley on September 26) was followed by a convincing four-set win over Nelson County in McVille September 30 and a stirring five-set triumph against South Border at GCCHS the next night improved the Titans' record to 9-11 this season. Against the Patriots, G/M Coach Presley Paintner said her team gave away too many f...
