On Friday, Sept. 30, Shannon Brandt was arrested and charged with Murder, a Class AA Felony. After an alleged hit-and-run on Sept. 18 in McHenry, N.D., which resulted in the death of 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson, Brandt was charged with criminal vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. In the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 18, tragedy struck in McHenry, N.D., when a pedestrian was hit and killed shortly after the McHenry Days street dance. According to a press release from the N.D. Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson of Grace City, N.D., was killed after being struck by 41-year-old Shannon Joseph Brandt of McHenry, driving a 2003 Ford Explorer. A motion was passed at the Foster County Commission meeting after much discussion to allot 60 percent of the remaining 55 percent for the installation of culverts in northeast Foster County. Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus released data on North Dakota’s taxable sales and purchases for the second quarter of 2022 on Sept. 14, which are up 11.5 percent compared to the same timeframe in 2021. Carrington's new police chief, Christopher Bittmann, brings 11 years of law enforcement experience to CPD. Originally from Richfield, Minn., Bittmann received his peace officer training and associate's degree in law enforcement from Hibbing Community and Technical College in Hibbing, Minn. Enrollment continues to rise at Carrington Public Schools. Evidence of that was on display before school even started, as a record crowd turned out for the Ice Cream Social on Aug. 17. Carrington’s Waste Pile Site, 6500 4th St. NE, will be open free of charge to all Carrington city residents on Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, September 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents are responsible for hauling their cleanup items to the waste pile site.
