The Great Plains Food Bank Youth Summer Meals Program was launched to give kids the chance to have a meal when other options may not be available. Children can visit any of the sites during the summer to get the food assistance they need. The program is available for children 18 and younger. Locally, the program starts May 28. The Carrington Runnings store, Carrington Garden Club members, and Foster County Extension staff recently combined resources and talents to teach third grade students about gardening. Carrington native Walker Carr is returning home. The decorated law enforcement officer won’t be in uniform, though. Instead, he has been offered a contract with the Carrington Public School. Muralist Linda Roesch applies a dash of spray paint to a mural adorning a shipping container in the back alley behind Lioness at 912 Main St. in Carrington. In the Foster County Commission story that ran in the May 13 edition of the Independent, the motion to bid out minimum road maintenance was incorrect. The motion was made to go ahead with bidding out the grinding and reclamation of part of the Club Hall Road near Kensal. According to County Engineer Mike Rivinius, the two roads in the poorest condition are the Club Hall and Murphy roads. The county will not be bidding out minimum maintenance of roads for 2024.
