Harvey-Wells County took a small squad to the Bismarck Community Bowl on Saturday, April 13, to participate in the Karlgaard Invite. Only six schools participated in the meet, which hosted a varsity and junior high division for both the boys and girls. Even with a momentary bout of freezing rain that hit the City Park complex on Thursday, April 11, the Carrington softball team managed to get in a game with the Thompson Tommies. The sun came out Tuesday, April 9, and the Carrington and HWC girls' softball teams met at the field at the Fessenden City Park for the teams' first action of the spring. Madison Johnson, a CHS senior and daughter of David and Nichole Johnson of Carrington, was selected to the Class A/B Lions All-Star Girls Basketball squad. The 5'7" senior guard helped lead the Cardinals to a 17-8 season this past season, their first in the new Division A. Pleasant temperatures awaited central North Dakota athletes at the first outdoor track meet of the season, the Bison Stampede in Hazen Tuesday, April 9. The HWC Hornets opened their outdoor season on Tuesday, April 9, participating in the Hazen Bison Stampede Meet. The first meet of the year started out with some great performances, as HWC qualified four people and five events for the state meet at the Bismarck Community Bowl May 23-25. The Carrington Pitcrew youth wrestling club had two teams on the mat at state competition from the Bismarck Event Center Friday, March 22. Justin Hone won his division (14-year old boys) at the Knights of Columbus free throw state championship held on March 23 at St. Johns Academy in Jamestown, N.D. He made 21 out of 25 shots. The Carrington Gymnastics Club competed at the USA Gymnastics state competition Friday-Sunday, March 22-24, at the Jamestown Civic Center. A quartet of the club's athletes earned automatic qualification for the Xcel Regionals, to be held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on April 19-21.
