  • Reuniting with friends

    Erik Gjovik|Jan 29, 2024

In the olden days before the three-division split, namely just last year, the Carrington and Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier girls could be counted on to provide some of the most entertaining and spirited games in the District 5 season. The stakes are much lower now, as this year's tussle of the Cards/Rebels was merely a non-conference game between Division A and B schools and not the grudge match of past campaigns. Both teams proved that the competitive juices still flow in Edgeley Saturday, January...

    Erik Gjovik|Jan 22, 2024

The Carrington girls basketball team is taking advantage of doing a bit of in-person scouting of Region 1 teams they could meet in a hypothetical Division A state tournament play-in situation. After defeating league leader Valley City earlier this season, the Cards took on the number three team currently in the opposite region's standings, the Northern Cass Jaguars. With some of their trademark balance and another good night from the stripe, Carrington went home happy about their chances with a...

  • Mehring shoots well in loss to FW-M

    Erik Gjovik|Jan 22, 2024

If anything, Carrington knows their perimeter shooting duties going forward will be capably handled for the next 3 1/2 seasons. Freshman Taylen Mehring's 13 points, including four three-point shots, served as a highlight in an otherwise-humbling 87-41 loss to Four Winds-Minnewaukan in Region 2 action from Thursday, January 11 in Minnewaukan. The Cards, like many teams before them, were unable to handle the Indians' hounding pressure defense, lightning-quick transition game, height and depth....

    Erik Gjovik|Jan 15, 2024

The Carrington Cardinals, slogging through six consecutive defeats to open their season, were aiming to put together their most complete effort over 32 minutes in hopes of getting into the winner's circle. They just needed the motivation, and the rival NR-S Rockets provided the fuel. It would end up being 32 plus four for Carrington to break through their black cloud, and score a 59-57 upset over the Rockets in the series where overall records don't seem to matter. Josh Bickett's 21 points...

    Erik Gjovik|Jan 15, 2024

M-P-B might find the going rough in their search for wins this year on the girls' basketball scene, but at least they have one more player who is a welcome addition to that quest. Senior guard Allison Thomas has made a swift return to the Thunder lineup following a scary-looking knee injury at the end of the volleyball season, and has contributed with games of eight and 10 points in M-P-B's most recent action. The Thunder fell to LaMoure/Litchville-Marion, 48-29, in LaMoure on January 4, but got...
