Led by a third-place overall effort by sophomore Kenadie Pazdernik, the Carrington girls earned a top 10 team finish at the East Region cross country meet in Cooperstown Saturday, October 15. Pazdernik trailed just east champion Jenna Soine of Hatton-Northwood and Amelia Shepard of Rugby in running 19 minutes, 52.9 seconds. The 2022 football season for Griggs/Midkota started with the carryover of a long losing streak, but has ended with two wins and promise that things could be looking up for the Titans. G-M put all phases of their game together in the season finale Friday night, October 7, in Cooperstown, taking a 34-6 win over the Tri-State Tigers to end at 2-6 overall. "For at least the last six years, our seniors have given everything they've had to the program," first-year Head Coach Ryan Dockter said. "The...
The final game of the season for Harvey-Wells County didn't disappoint, as the excitement was at a high and the scoring matched that level. In a game that featured two teams that had much better plans for the 2022 season, HWC was playing their final game and standing at 2-5 on the season, while Grafton was 0-7 with a game against Rugby on October 14 to finish their season. The teams battled for the first half, but a stingy Hornet defense shut the door on the Spoilers in the second half to lift H...
The Harvey-Wells County girls' volleyball team picked up a big Region 4 victory on Thursday, October 6, in McVille as they defeated the Nelson County Chargers 3-1. The Hornets also participated in a very competitive Carrington Tourney on Saturday, October 8, where they were defeated four times. HWC 3, Nelson Co. 1 It was a solid start to the night for the home team, as the Chargers, behind an ace from Brandi Lippert and a kill from Rylan Parsley, opened up a quick 7-1 lead. The Hornets fought...
The most tell-tale sign of weekend success for the Carrington Cardinals, specifically when they host their Varsity Tournament, is when they play well enough to stay in the West Gym for all six games. CHS came out on the winning end of all 12 of their sets, earned the top overall seed and took the championship Saturday afternoon, October 8, with a two-set win over the M-P-B Thunder (25-13 in both games). Starting bright and early at 8 a.m., the Cards took Pool A victories against HWC, Velva and...
Griggs/Midkota took two defeats during last week's worth of volleyball matches, falling in three sets to Hatton-Northwood in a nonregion contest and dropping a District 5 outing with Ellendale. In the loss to the Thunder on October 6 (19-25, 15-25, 18-25), Asia Becherl led the Titans with eight kills and two aces. At the net, Lauryn Halvorson stopped two attacks for blocks, and also finished with four kills and eight digs. Andie Anderson paced the back passers with 12 digs, and Ryan Johnson had...
It wasn't the five-set marathon that these two evenly-matched programs have been accustomed to playing over the last few years, but the Carrington Cardinals and Oakes Tornadoes met up for some hotly-contested tension at the nets in Tornado Alley Tuesday night, October 11. The Cards fell in four games to the Tornadoes, 21-25, 25-15, 19-25 and 18-25, giving Oakes (5-1 District 5) the number two seed for the upcoming District 5 Volleyball Tournament at Barnes County North in Leal October 27, 28 and...
The HWC volleyball team saw extensive action the week covering October 1-4, playing five games at the Washburn Tournament and then traveling to Maddock to take on Region 4 opponent Benson County. The Hornets played five games in Washburn on Saturday, October 1, splitting 1-1 with Garrison, Divide County and Grant County in pool play. The teams were all seeded according to records in pool play and the amount of points scored, which resulted in HWC going to the Bronze Tournament bracket. In that...
The fifth and sixth grade Carrington "Cardinals" football team just completed a very successful season with an overall mark of 7-1. They took first in the league championship, defeating Rugby by a score of 26-12, and would play at the Fargodome against Hankinson. In a low-scoring defensive battle, the Cardinals prevailed, 6-0, with Krew Wolsky scoring the only touchdown on a tight end reverse play. The team's only loss for the season came to Rugby earlier in the year. Team members are, front...

Carrington kept their late season resurgence alive with a convincing 28-6 win over HWC on Friday, October 1, in Carrington. The Cardinals won their third straight game and kept their playoff hopes alive with a strong rushing attack and a solid defensive effort. The Hornet defense would have to stop the Cardinal rushing attack if they wanted a victory, and that was evident from the first drive of the game. Carrington's first drive started at their own 43 and moved all the way to the Hornet one...
Griggs/Midkota laced up their cleats to take on the 9B Region 2 co-leaders, the Maple River (Hope-Page/Maple Valley) Raiders, in Hope on Friday, September 30. The Raiders kept their undefeated mark in the region intact with a 40-8 win over the Titans, and set up a titanic showdown with the May-Port-CG Patriots for the Region 2 title this past Friday in Mayville. Scoring summary and stats from the game were not available. Both MPCG and Maple River have clinched 9-man playoff berths, while the...

Carrington's experience shone through in a pair of straight-set wins over Benson County in Maddock and Barnes County North in the East Gym in matches played September 29 and October 4. The Cards took on a very-green Benson County team as part of a non-region match, as the Wildcats' starting lineup consists mostly of freshmen and sophomores, and one senior in the mix. CHS took a 25-16, 25-6 and 25-10 win in that game, and nine different players had kills, paced by Haley Wolsky's nine. The senior...
Medina/Pingree-Buchanan, playing very well as of late, hasn't quite had that string of success translate to league matches. An 0-2 start to the District 6 season meant the Thunder were in need of some positive vibes heading into the second part of the slate. They would do that, taking a three-set win against the Kidder County Wolves in Medina on September 29, and were pushed to the brink for a 15-13 squeaker in the deciding set five for a big 3-2 triumph on the road over the...
For 28 years running, the Panther Booster Invitational in Rugby has been home to one of the biggest Class B meets of the cross country fall season. Carrington, Griggs/Midkota and HWC were the local teams in attendance for the meet, which brought in 27 girls’ teams and 30 boys’ teams to the heart of America. Cardinal senior Baylee Lura finished 31st overall (22:07.83) out of 110 runners in the girls’ race to lead Carrington’s contingent. Down the table, Macy Fiebiger was 61st in 23:40.7...

As the third team qualifier out of the loaded Region 2, Carrington's expectations vacillated between no pressure, and anxiousness from one particular golfer to show her mettle among the state's best. By that measure, the 2022 State Class B Girls Golf Tournament, held at Minot's Souris Valley Golf Course, ended up being a good showing for the Cards, with an eighth place team score of 784. Leading the charge for CHS was junior Kacie Rexin, with her two-day total of 160 tying her for fourth place...
