    Erik Gjovik|Sep 12, 2022

Hillsboro/Central Valley did all their damage to the Carrington Cardinals in just one half of football Friday night, September 2. Specifically, a several-minute barrage of points late in the first and early in the second quarter that shellshocked the Cards and ended their realistic chances almost before they started. HCV took a two-touchdown lead after the first quarter, but turned on the jets in the second 12 minutes to take a 38-7 lead at the break and finish with a 38-14 win in Hillsboro....

  • Split for G-M Titan net squad

    Erik Gjovik|Sep 12, 2022

The Carissa Mehus era at the helm of the Griggs/Midkota volleyball program began its life as a smashing success in the season opener. In Binford Thursday night, September 1, the Titans took three sets off Benson County, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-15. Things didn't quite appear as rosy in the second game five nights later, as the Aggies of Park River/Fordville-Lankin took a three-set sweep. Mehus takes over for Katie Eggermont as G-M head coach, who stepped away from the sport to spend time raising her...

  • Cards fall in four to Thompson on road

    Erik Gjovik|Sep 12, 2022

Carrington had skill and a bit of luck on their side when they took the first set off the Thompson Tommies, 25-14. But the Region 2 powerhouse gathered themselves and took the final three games to send the Cards to defeat for the first time this year, 21-25, 20-25 and 8-25. Even with the loss, Coach Megan Trautman is pleased with how her team has looked at times in the first week. “We’ve come out with a lot of energy and played some really great volleyball,” said Trautman. “You can’t rush time...

  • Six turnovers, Heisler's heroics give Panthers win over Cards

    Erik Gjovik|Sep 5, 2022

Moving the football in between the 20-yard lines wasn't much of a problem for Carrington Friday night, August 26. It was executing clutch plays that was, along with protecting every valuable possession given to them. And it took just two scoring plays by Macen Heisler for the Rugby Panthers to walk away with a win in the newly-christened Stadium '22, 12-7. Heisler answered the Cards' first lead of the season on a Logan Weninger seven-yard touchdown and long extra point by Jack Paulson at the...

    Lane Moellenkamp|Sep 5, 2022

Loerch Field on Friday, August 26. Both teams had a solid defensive effort in the opening quarter, as the Cardinals scored just once on a Jack Romfo three-yard run on L/E/M's second possession. Leading by six heading into the second quarter, the Cardinals unleashed what could be one of the best...

  • Warbirds roll over G-M

    Erik Gjovik|Sep 5, 2022

As much as they could, the Griggs/Midkota Titan football coaching staff saw some positives from their second game of the season. Unfortunately, the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds were not in a conciliatory mood, and laid the lumber to the Titans in a 65-8 loss in G-M's home opener Friday night, August 26. "The team played hard, but we struggled to move the ball offensively," said Head Coach Ryan Dockter. "Our defense was able to create a few turnovers, but really couldn't stop them. We knew it...

In pool play, HWC lost to a very talented and senior-heavy Rugby Panther team, and also dropped two games to Westhope-Newburg. • Growing pains: Braves' big passing plays sink Cards

    Erik Gjovik|Aug 29, 2022

The Bottineau Braves, in their one season of nine-man football in 2021, came tantalizingly close to advancing to the Dakota Bowl. Dreams of showcasing their abilities on the Fargodome turf were dashed by eventual state champion LaMoure/Litchville-Marion in the semifinals, 20-6. The Braves and Coach Zach Keller made the move back up to Class 11B this year, and Carrington was their first opponent out of the gate. CHS played competitively with a quality opponent, but fell to 0-1 with a 26-14 loss...

However, the Titans spent much of the game dealing with the effectiveness of the Colts' "T" offense, popularized by the University of Mar...

Two fourth quarter scores for Harvey-Wells County turned a slim six-point lead into a 20-point victory, as the Hornets started the season 1-0 by defeating the Rugby Panthers in Rugby on Friday, August 19. Both the Hornets and Panthers were pretty conservative to start the night, but HWC got the scoring rolling on their second possession. It only took a couple of plays but the highlight was a 48-yard scamper by Kayl Sieg, setting up a three-yard touchdown run from Tallen Thorson. The PAT was...

    Lane Moellenkamp|Aug 29, 2022

Harvey-Wells County lost in the first round of the playoffs to Central Cass but some gained valuable playing time with unfortunate injuries piling up late last season. Coach Bret Dockter enters his 9th year as head coach of Harvey-Wells County and his 26th year coaching overall. Dockter knows where his team's strengths and weaknesses lie and he...
