Gail Schumann

Gail Ann Schumann, 64, Mayville, N.D., was called home to heaven from her battle with cancer on Wed., Dec. 22, 2021.

Gail was born to Don and Iris Schumann on September 4, 1957, in Minot, N.D. Gail lived all over North Dakota as her dad installed telephone service across the state.

She graduated from Richardton High School in 1975. She attended and graduated from Beauty school in 1976 in Bismarck. She then moved to Carrington, N.D., and worked as a hairdresser.

Gail met and married Randy Schlotman in 1979 in Carrington, N.D. They had two daughters Kris and Kari. In 1989, they moved to Mayville where Gail was the Manager of the DQ.

After getting divorced, Gail went back to school at Mayville State University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Business Management in 2001. From 2001 to 2004, she was the manager of the Pizza Hut and in 2004 she became the Director of the Food Service program at Mayville State University holding that position for 11 years. In the last few years, she switched to working at the local Cenex, where she made many friends that would stop in to see her.

Gail loved spending time at Little Bemidji Lake where the Schumann family runs a resort and her parents live. She loved to fish and loved to share her passion for fishing with friends and family. When you did not find her at the lake, she would be off spending time watching her grandchildren in their activities, everything from wrestling and taekwondo tournaments to snowmobiling races.

She enjoyed her time spent with her dear friends and giving her time to different organizations in the community like the Lions Club and Lake Association. On Saturday and Sundays, you could find her cheering from a mile away for her favorite sport teams the Mayville State Comets, NDSU Bison and the Vikings. She was the life of the party.

In keeping with Gail's loving and generous spirit, it was her decision to be an eye donor and to have her body given to Science at UND.

She is survived by her parents, Don and Iris Schumann Waubun, Minn; children: Kris (Dalton) McMahon of Deadwood, S.D., and Kari (Clent) Bell of Mayville, N.D.; grandchildren: Winter, Nevada, Katiyana, Dalton, Hunter, and Devin; siblings Doug (Linda) Schumann Waubun, Minn., and Keith (Ann) Schumann Ogema, Minn.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Gail is proceeded in death by her grandparents and nephew.

Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, with a 7 p.m. Public Prayer Service at the Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Mayville, N.D., and resumed one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Mayville Lutheran Church in Mayville, N.D.
