Carrington, N.D. – The local Knights of Columbus (KC) Council 4951 will hold their annual spaghetti feed, followed by bingo and a silent auction on Sunday, February 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Carrington.
The event will once again support the work of the “Friends of Chimbote” organization that North Dakota priest, Father Jack Davis, was instrumental in for so many years. What once were called “soup kitchens” in Chimbote, Peru to help nourish the poor, have expanded over the years to include providing food, education, resources and services for the surrounding barrios (areas with minimal services like electricity, water and roads).
The past two years with the pandemic proved difficult for many across the world, but through financial and volunteer support, 47 families received housing, over 400 micro-loans were given to help individuals start or keep a business going to support themselves or their families, 300 students received summer school support and over 69,000 meals were served in 2021.
The organization’s efforts ultimately focus on education as a means to transform lives and open the doors of opportunity.
The KC’s hope you can make it to this year’s event which will include a freewill meal of spaghetti, salad and dessert from 5-7pm, bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. and a silent auction occurring throughout the evening. Bingo will be 3 cards for $1.00 or $0.50/card for cash prizes.
If you are interested in donating an item for the silent auction, please contact Henry Simons at (701) 652-3289.
