'Wolfing' down the competition

The current makeup of the LaMoure/Litchville-Marion boys’ basketball roster has seen success no matter what sport they’re currently playing.

State champions in nine-man football this past fall, along with winning Class B, American Legion and Babe Ruth Baseball crowns, the Loboes are quite the cohesive stable of athletes.

One half of basketball was all it took for L-L-M to assert themselves as the ‘alpha wolf’, and took a 61-42 win over Carrington January 28 in the East Gym.

Like it has gone in their losses over the past three seasons, offensive droughts would end up being the Cards’ Achilles heel, especially against the Loboes.

Carrington trailed by just seven at the end of one quarter, but LaMoure/L-M’s trapping press created numerous turnovers and opportunities for the visitors and suddenly, their lead ballooned to 36-14.

The Cards outscored the Loboes by a 28-25 margin in the second half.

Senior guard Lucas Hendrickson was the one player to have much offensive success against the Lobo defense, scoring 21 points.

Forty-four of the 61 points for L-L-M came from three players, led by Corban Potts’ 20 tallies. Twelve each came from Charlie Bowman and Max Musland.

The Loboes boosted their record to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in District 5, while the Cards dropped to 5-7 and 1-3 in district play.

On Tuesday, CHS plays a pivotal league matchup at home with the Oakes Tornadoes, and will be on the road to Kulm Thursday night for another District 5 clash with E-K-M.
