Jacob Rexin speaks softly, but lets his work ethic from growing up on his family's farm near Sykeston shine through in everything he does.
Whether it's on the golf course (running cross country or playing golf), the track, the baseball field, the FFA arena or the classroom, Jacob has demonstrated his athletic and academic chops.
Rexin, a senior at Carrington High School, was recently named to the Gold Team of the North Dakota Academic All-State Teams, sponsored by the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals. He carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) and scored a 34 on his ACT.
"It's just a bonus to be recognized for everything," said Jacob, the son of Mike and Michelle Rexin. "I guess I've always liked the competition aspect of things, and seeing how I do against other people."
He played a large part in the Carrington FFA Agronomy Team's third place national finish this year, and is a multi-year state qualifier in track and cross country. He also plays baseball during the summer months, and was on the golf team this past spring in addition to track.
"There have been some challenges with trying to find that balance with everything with practice and school work. I guess I've been pretty lucky," Rexin says of his time management skills.
"I try to get a lot of things done during the school day, or at least try not to put anything off till the last minute."
He wishes to thank his parents, his teachers/coaches, and teammates for pushing him to be the best he can be.
"The coaches here know what they're doing, and they've always been supportive of me. My teachers have also been very flexible with my schedule," said Rexin.
Future plans for Rexin include attending NDSU and majoring in Crop and Weed Science, and possibly coming back to farm.
"I'm not 100 percent sure, but that's what I'm leaning towards," he says.
Rexin is the third Carrington High School student in a seven-year span to be named to the Gold Team, following in the footsteps of Keaton Erickson (2016) and Zach Johnson (2018).
