Again in operation after a winter shut-down is Rainbow Gardens, tourist camp, café, and dance hall, operated by H.T. Hayashi. The first dinner of the season was served to the public last Sunday. Mr. Hayashi said service given last year will be continued this year. Dances are held at Rainbow Gardens dance hall on Wednesday and Saturday nights.
Winter returned briefly to most of North Dakota over the weekend with heavy snowfall in some sections, strong winds, whipping up semi-blizzard conditions and wet snow in the east, downing communication lines. Traffic on most main highways was impeded to a considerable extent and many secondary routes were blocked.
Rev. N.E. McCoy, the Jamestown “radio pastor,” former local minister, has expressed his gratitude for the public’s cooperation and acceptance of his type of bringing the Gospel to the public.
Joe Kreps, who accompanied a shipment of relief cattle to China, called his wife by telephone from Vancouver Monday of last week, shortly after his boat docked. Next day Mrs. Kreps left for Portland, Ore., where she was to meet her husband.
The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Knott of Bristol, S.D., was celebrated at a reunion of the Knott families at New Rockford last Friday, hosts for the event being three sons, Harry of Carrington, and Ralph and Truman of New Rockford.
Winners of hams in recent competition at Jack’s Super Valu were Otto Reule, Edmunds, Mrs. W. Thurman and Mrs. Wm. Buchli, Carrington.
Conventions of the Harvey Circuit of the Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation and the Young People’s Luther League will be held April 26 - 27 at the Kvernes Lutheran Church with parishes of McClusky, Harvey, Bowdon, New Rockford territory, Carrington and Sheyenne represented.

“You never see a pure, blue sky in the Chicago-Racine, Wisconsin, Gray, Indiana, area” says Benny Graff. The people who live there think that it’s blue, but they can’t remember what a big, open sky is like,” he continues. Before beginning law practice in Carrington in association with attorney Fabian Noack, Graff worked as a corporate lawyer for a giant corporation, Johnson Wax, in Racine, Wisconsin. He forecasts that many other professional people will make a similar decision to get out of the big cities in the next 5 to 10 years.
Local members of Carrington Kiwanis Club will be cooks and waiters at Carnival ‘72 to be held Saturday evening here. Members will serve a benefit supper featuring spaghetti and meatballs in the Carrington High School lunchroom. Kiwanis president A.K. Johnson said the club’s effort is part of the carnival activity to raise funds for the school curtain fund, and he urged families to come for a meal at prices kept at a minimum.
Supt. Kenneth Reed has received official notification that Miss Renee Anderson, a senior at Glenfield-Sutton High School has won the District 7 “Voice of Democracy” contest held in Jamestown.
A good crowd was in attendance for the club championship pistol match at the James River Gun Club at Cathay, Thursday evening March 23. Ronald Reed emerged as the new club champion with a total handicap and aggregate of 940. Jerry Reichenberger and Marian Faul were the victors in the two-man team. Sherman Sylling, Ron Reede, Alvin Faul and Elmer Faul won the four -man event.
The CHS juniors are putting the final touches on their class play in preparation for their first performance Friday. The play, “Finders Creepers” is a three act mystery-comedy by Donald Payton.
Gate City Announces a $10,000 grant to help build a better way of life in North Dakota. This grant is for any club, organization or group that comes up with the best plan to improve our North Dakota way of life. This grant could be used to pay for its completion in full or help start the plan toward a successful completion.

Ground-breaking for the new AgGrow oils processing plant will be held Wednesday, April 9th at 11:00, followed by a noon meal and short program at the NDSU Research/Extension Center.
The Carrington Elementary Spring Concert will be held on Monday, April 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Grades 2 and 3 will be doing a musical the “Color Factory”, Grades 4 - 6 will be doing the musical “Celebrate You and Me”. Both productions are under the direction of Miss Roemmich.
Five area contestants will compete for scholarships in the Miss Carrington/Miss Dakota Country Scholarship Pageant that will be held April 12th in the Carrington Elementary gymnasium. Those competing are Desiree DeVillers, Jessica Florhaug, Sarah Hjelseth, Janet Lauckner and Nicole Weinmann.
Brian McDermott, of Gettysburg, S.D. has accepted the position of chief executive officer of Carrington Health Center. He replaces Michael Baumgartner who resigned in December, 1996.
Workers put the finishing touches on new carpeting in the lobby area of Golden Acres Manor. Construction on a $1.7 million remodeling project is nearing completion. One of the new features at the Golden Acres Manor is a new chapel at the entrance of the new addition.
Brian Oster has been named the new manager at H.E. Everson Auto Parts and Welding Supply in Carrington. Butch Kouba and Troy Roundy have sold their interests in the company, according to a press release from Everson’s home office in Grand Forks.
Business of the Week - Pizza Stop by Peggy and Patricia Clifton. We are a pizza restaurant and offer a wide variety of other foods. We provide dining in, carry out or delivery, reservations for large groups and catering. Some of the changes that we are making are trying to come up with a wide selection of alternative foods for people who don’t eat pizza. A tip for succeeding is making contact with the customers and seeing to it they are satisfied and well taken care of. If not, try to make them happy. A “perfect day” is being busy and having satisfied customers.
Roxanne March, a senior at Carrington High School, has been named a Daughters of the American Revolution Citizen. March was chosen as one of four division winners from around North Dakota in the contest.
Kensal High School will present “Lie, Cheat, and Genuflect,” this Friday, April 11 in the Kensal Public School multi-purpose room.
