Carrington FFA gold at state horse judging

The Carrington FFA Chapter placed fifth, earning a gold team award, at the North Dakota State FFA Horse Judging Career Development Event held Tuesday, May 10 at the NDSU Equine Center in Fargo.

Team members included Baylee Lura, Karlee Lesmann, Brekka Kuss, and Jozey Retzlaff. Baylee Lura placed fourth individually, receiving a gold award. Jozey Retzlaff received a silver individual award. Brekka Kuss and Karlee Lesmann received bronze individual awards.

The Horse Judging event consisted of evaluating six classes of horses. Three classes were placed with the horses on halter and three classes were performance classes.

The performance classes included Trail, Hunter Under Saddle, and Hunter Hack. The participants also presented oral reasons on two of the classes to justify their placing of the horses.

A written test was taken in various aspects of horse tack, breeds, anatomy, and structure. A total of ninety five FFA members from twenty three chapters competed in the event.
