Carol Koepplin was chosen as the 2022 DAISY award winner at CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington.
Carol is a registered nurse who works in Acute Care and has been a member of the CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington family for over 14 years.
This is the third time Carol has been nominated for this award. Carol's winning nomination came from one of her patient's granddaughter. This is what that she had to say: "I want to nominate Carol for being an extraordinary nurse. Every time I have had a loved one in your facility she has gone above and beyond to make sure that not only the patient is informed and comfortable but also the family. We lost my grandma quite quickly.
"She walked into the clinic on a Monday and by Friday morning my mom got the call from Carol that we should come see her. Carol spent the day making sure my grandma was comfortable in her last moments. She made accommodations for us, the family, to have space and time with grandma. We were able to spend her last moments holding her hand. Carol showed great empathy towards us. And made this already hard moment easier on all of us. Carol is an extraordinary nurse and 100% deserves this award."
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the Patrick Barnes family. Patrick died after an eight-week illness from an auto-immune disease. The family wanted a way to say thank you to the wonderful nurses that provided extraordinary care to them and Patrick every day. So, the family created the DAISY award.
DAISY is an acronym for Disease Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY award has developed into a meaningful recognition program that has been adopted by many health care organizations around the world. Nurses are nominated for this award by patients and family members of patients for extraordinary care they have received. The nominations are voted on by the Administrative team and/or Patient Family Advisory Council of CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington.
The DAISY award is given out each year during Nurse's Week.
If you would like to nominate an extraordinary nurse, please ask any clinic or hospital staff for a nomination form, or call Shelley Kollman, Interim VP of Patient Care Services at 701-652-7140.
