Shot throwers, Larson lead Titans

The Griggs/Midkota Titan girls track team delivered the triumph of quality over quantity over three days at the state meet from the MDU Resources Community Bowl May 26-28.

With just three state-qualified athletes, the Titans still managed to score 21 points and finish in 10th place in the Class B team standings.

Senior Jenna Larson tied for second in the girls' high jump with Janikka Miller of Rugby, with each clearing the bar at 5'1" and finishing behind Ellendale's Kaylin Slivoskey's 5'2" winning jump. Larson would also place sixth in pole vault with an effort of 9'6".

In the shot put, G-M had two contestants make their way to the podium. Asia Becherl placed second (37'7") behind state champion Laikyn Roney of Oakes, and Kaylee Johnson heaved an effort of 36'6" for sixth. Both are juniors for the Titans.

The Titan boys had four event slots qualified, and got one team in the finals. The 4x400-meter relay team of Josiah Scott, Gavin Nelson, Aaron Moser and Wayland Sabinash took eighth for the Titans' single team point.
