'Birds' split vs Steele and ALW

On Thursday, June 23, the Redbirds' Babe Ruth squad edged out a comeback victory over Steele on the road.

The game got off to a rough start for Carrington, as they were unable to find home plate in the top of the first, but allowed one runner to score in the bottom of the inning after giving up two base hits and three walks.

In the innings that followed, the Birds' offense couldn't get off the ground, as they failed to earn a single hit in the first three innings, allowing Steele's slim lead to hold.

Importantly, however, the lead didn't increase. Despite their first inning woes, Carrington's pitching and defense quickly improved, and the offense eventually took advantage.

Leading off the bottom of the fourth, Nic Garber notched the Birds' first hit of the day, and after taking advantage of an error, Tate Wolsky crossed home plate for their first run.

It proved to be the shot in the arm they needed, as Carrington scored twice more in the fifth and added another pair of runs in the seventh.

Steele attempted to keep up with Carringtons' new found offense, scoring three more runs before the dust settled, but ultimately fell too far behind, giving the Redbirds' a hard-earned 5-4 win on the road.

Unfortunately, the Birds couldn't follow up their win with another versus Ashley/Linton/Wishek (ALW) at home on Monday, June 27.

Carrington and AWL played a relatively back-and-forth game for much of the day, aside from a 5-run inning for AWL in the fourth, which set them well ahead of their opponents and resulted in a 10-5 defeat for Carrington.
