Obituary: Marvin Sondag

Marvin Sondag

Marvin Allan Sondag was born January 6, 1950, and died July 28, 2022, at Mirabella at ASU Memory Care in Tempe, Arizona.

He was born in Carrington, North Dakota. He graduated from Sykeston High School in 1968, from the University of North Dakota in 1972 and from the Law School at Arizona State University in 1975.

Marvin began his legal career at the Arizona Legislative Council before joining the Law Department of the City of Phoenix working more than 30 years.

Marvin was an avid jogger, bicycle rider and hiker. He completed many marathons, duathlons and triathlons and ran the Grand Canyon South Rim to North Rim to South Rim in less than one day more than once.

He was also a dedicated volunteer Park Steward at South Mountain Park and Preserve in Phoenix.

Marvin was married for more than 40 years to Donna Schober.

He is survived by his wife and sisters Norma (Roger Kulas), Gladstone, Michigan; Beverly, Aurora, Colorado; Gladys (Jeff Wells), Aurora, Colorado; Karen (Jay Strachota), Washburn, Wisconsin; and brother Don (Terrie Sondag), Reno, Nevada. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Virginia Schober and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Viola (Laber) and Sylvester Sondag and father-in-law Kenneth Schober.

Funeral Mass was held Friday, August 5 at 10 a.m. at ASU Catholic Newman Center in Tempe.
