Ten Foster County 4-H'ers participated in the state land judging contest at Harvey, N.D. on August 4.
The senior team and the junior team both won their respective divisions.
The senior team was led by Kelsey Johnson, who won the individual contest with a near perfect score. Molly Hansen placed second and Kyle Johnson fifth among the senior 4-H'ers. Ashley Lindberg and Abby Lee also competed in the senior division.
The win qualifies the senior team to compete in the national 4-H land judging contest in Oklahoma next May.
In the junior division, Cally Hansen was high individual and Cyrena Kuss placed fifth. Brandt Klein and Kenleigh Hinrichs also competed in the junior division.
Land judging is a national 4-H and FFA program to build knowledge and respect for the land, its uses and conservation.
Land judgers are trained on soil texturing, estimating slope and determining topsoil depth. Participants also learn to make management decisions such as fertility recommendations based on soil tests, tillage and crop choice.
The Foster County Land Judging teams are coached by Missy Hansen and Joel Lemer.
