G-M Titans drop opener to Richland Colts, 25-6

The Griggs/Midkota Titans began their fall football campaign with a 25-6 loss to the Richland Colts Friday night, August 19, in Colfax.

G-M (0-1) scored their only touchdown of the game in the second quarter when quarterback Brady Haugen scored on a keeper behind the blocking of Isaac Stadler and Levi Kautzman, putting the finishing touches on a 15-play drive.

However, the Titans spent much of the game dealing with the effectiveness of the Colts' "T" offense, popularized by the University of Maryland in the past.

Griggs-Midkota trailed by six at the end of the first and second quarters, 6-0 and 12-6, before injuries in the third quarter helped Richland pull away for two more scores.

"The guys played hard, that's the biggest thing," said Head Coach Ryan Dockter. "We were able to learn about who we are as a team. Despite the score, there are things we did really well, and areas in which we can grow."

Dockter added that with the first game of any season, there will be growing pains along the way, but he added, "The guys had fun and are excited to see what the rest of the season brings."

This past Friday, G-M hosted the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds in Cooperstown for the home opener, and will be on the road again next Friday night when they head to Hankinson to take on the Pirates.

The Titans play in 9B - Region 2, which features regional rivals Enderlin, Hatton/Northwood, May-Port-CG and Maple River.

Since there are only five members in the league, region members will play four of the five teams from Region 1 as part of their non-region schedule.

Fortunately for the young Titans' regular season slate, the odd team out in that arrangement is defending state champion LaMoure/Litchville-Marion.

The upcoming season schedule for G-M is as follows:
