Next week during Hospital Appreciation Week in Carrington, a drive will be held for the purpose of raising funds for a new hospital to be connected to the present Carrington Hospital.
Construction of a new building to house the Carrington Bottling Works, A.M. and J.C. Dybwad proprietors, was begun this week on lots on the east side of the city. The new structure to be made of cement blocks, will be 50 feet by 80 feet, one story. Maynard Busch is the contractor on the job.
A new attorney, Thos A. Roney, will begin practicing law in Carrington next Monday having purchased the practice of Darrell G. Topp, who has been in the law business here over a year.
Taking part in the golf tournament at Devils Lake Sunday were A.G. Schultz, who won the consolation in the first flight. Bob Spitzer, winner of consolation in the eighth flight, also Dr. R.F. Gililand, J.L. Sparrow, R.W. Hargrave, Pat Ableidinger, H.C. Stitzer, H.M. Knott, C.H. Hunstad and Phil Neuharth were consolation winners.
St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Minot, has announced that Jeanette Eberhardt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Eberhardt, Juanita, is a member of its 1947 graduating class. She was an honor student.
The Methodist Church, Grace City, was the scene of the wedding Sunday afternoon of Ruby Margaret Topp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Topp, and Frederick A. Melgard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick H. Melgard.
Juanita school opened Monday, Sept. 8, Howard Payne is superintendent, Mrs. H.F. Spickler his assistant, Edna Swearingen is teaching the upper grades and Mrs. Werner Lutz of Glenfield the lower.
Miss Mabel Agnes Kanwischer and Warren Leslie Duntley, both of Carrington, were married Friday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Jamestown, the Rev. Leslie R. Burgum officiating.

It was Appreciation Night at Grace City Monday evening as the local business people were hosts to patrons of the area at a supper and program. It was a first such observance at Grace City. The business people decided that a joint appreciation gesture would be more effective than several individual efforts.
Charles B. Heitkamp of Carrington has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the N.D. Army National Guard and is assigned to Company A. 141st Engineer Battalion, Carrington.
A baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs. Jack Rogelstad at Carrington Hospital on September 1.
Mrs. Allen Larson will teach the morning session and Mrs. David Braaten the afternoon session of kindergarten classes held in Trinity Lutheran Church, September 5 was opening day.
Paula Edwardson was honored at three bridal showers, the first held at the Rudy Edwardson home Aug. 4. Mrs. Paul Neumiller, Sykeston, was hostess at the shower in her home Aug. 28 and Mrs. Rudy Edwardson’s birthday club held a shower at the IOOF Hall Aug. 30.
Carrington Women’s Golf Association has completed activities for the season, including a tournament and election.
Mrs. Les (Karen) Olafson was winner of the double elimination handicap tournament, Mrs. Marvin (Bett) Hoye placed second and Mrs. Laverne (Betty) Kollman won third place. New officers are: president Mrs. Olafson; vice Mrs. John Mehring, Jr.; secretary Mrs. Gerald Paulson; and treasurer Mrs. Mel Zaun.

Work is progressing on the erection of one part of a new scoreboard at the Carrington football field. The new scoreboard was donated to the school by the Pepsi-Cola Company.
Overall, the Carrington district has 23 more students this year than it did last year, an increase of seven at the elementary and a 16 student increase in the high school.
Ben Edinger has retired from his barber shop business after 50 years. He and his wife, Freida, will retire in Jefferson, Texas.
New Arrivals - son, Nicholas Dean, born to Lynn Chadwick and Duane Schaefer of Carrington on August 28, 1997.

To keep the Dakota Kids Daycare operating in Carrington the daycare needs to be subsidized in some form. This was the message last week when about 25 community leaders, daycare and youth center board members and parents met in an effort to find a solution to the daycare’s financial crisis.
The forms for the cement floor of the new fire hall are in place awaiting the mechanicals to be completed. Members of the Fire Department have spent many hours of volunteer time to prepare the site.
