Bowdon Duck Fest is an annual community Fall Festival that started in 2003 and is still going strong and building each year.
This year's event is taking place on September 16 through the 18. The change was due to weather concerns and harvest. A committee works hard to make Duck Fest a community event that has something for everyone. In 2022, Bowdon will celebrate 19 years of Duck Fest with an exciting line up. Keeping traditions alive and bringing new events annually to keep it interesting.
Friday, September 16, kicks off with the annual German Supper at 5 p.m. at the school's Bowdon Activity Center. Traditional German food just like Grandma made. Lots of community volunteers getting together to put on this supper that is looked forward to each year and what Bowdon is known for.
Bowdon's annual Art Show is back with Nina Loeck's and her painting party "Art from the Heart," anyone of all levels can participate and create a fall painting to take with them. A sneak peak of the Art show will be on Friday Sept 16 at 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. during the German Supper. The art show will be held in its own art gallery at the Bowdon Activity Center and has $1000 worth of prize money for five different categories of art. Area talent will be showcasing their art and competing for People's choice awards, youth awards and overall best in show.
The Bowdon Lion's Club is hosting a number of events that get the crowd involved. On Friday, the lions will be calling Bingo after the German supper. On Saturday, the lions will have their annual duck race on Main St. This tradition started in 2013. Folks will have a chance to purchase a rubber duck for $10 at participating locations around town. The rubber ducks are numbered and on Saturday afternoon they will race down Main St. in a make shift river. The first ducks to reach the end will receive monetary prizes and proceeds of the event will enable the Lions club to continue their work for the community. Sunday is their traditional Pancake feed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be a craft and vendor show at the Bowdon School now known as the Bowdon Activity center. Everything from children's clothing, women's accessories and clothing, jewelry, home décor and art will be sold. Activities for the kids will be held out front.
On Saturday, an event to reminisce about the old days will be a plowing demonstration at the field north of the RV park provided by Bob Martin of Bowdon, using traditional antique plowing equipment. A car show and a parade will be on Main St.
Coming back this year on Saturday Sept 17 at 2 p.m. will be a corn hole tournament held on Main St. Participants will be competing for a first place prize of $500, second place prize of $250 and third place of $150. New this year is a clay pigeon trap shoot. With a payout and prizes.
Saturday will have food provided by Tim Dandy BBQ food truck all day and into the night with the street dance. A tri tip steak feed supper will be hosted by the Bowdon Grocery Store board at the Fire Hall. Afterwards music by: "Euphoria" at the community center.
Taking advantage of better weather in the fall and new this year will be a street dance provided by the Duck bar of Bowdon and it will feature the band "Kissing Company," West Fargo, Minn., they play a variety of music from country to rock.
