Rexin makes state field at Cooper golf meet

Carrington junior Kacie Rexin became the first Cardinal individual golfer to qualify for the State Class B Girls’ Golf Meet, to be held in late September.

Rexin shot a score of 80, or four over par, to take third place individually and easily clear the automatic standard of 87 at a Region 2 qualifying meet in Cooperstown Friday, August 26.

In that same meet, freshman Aubrey Neis took fifth place overall with an 18-hole score of 95. As a team, the Cards placed third with a score of 399, behind meet winner Kindred’s 372 and Oak Grove at 379.

Also in Cooperstown, the junior varsity team also competed. Aniston Hoornaert was third overall with a nine-hole card of 45, and Kennedy Trostad shot a 56.

Three days earlier, on August 23, the Cards, Region 2 squads and the Fargo Class A schools played in a special “A & B Crossover” meet held at Oxbow Country Club. There, Rexin placed seventh out of all competitors.

Last Monday in Leonard, Carrington had three placers in Rexin (86), and a tie for 10th between Kaley Kostelnik and Molly Hansen (107).

CHS took third with 421 strokes, as Kindred (376) and Oak Grove (383) were the top two team placers.

This Wednesday, September 7, will be the date for the second Region 2 individual qualifying meet at CrossRoads Golf Course in Carrington. Tee time starts at 10 a.m.

On Thursday, Cottonwood Golf Course in Casselton will play host to a junior varsity meet, also beginning at 10 a.m. that day.
