Under the coaching of Earl Logue, Carrington High School’s football season is set to open Sept. 26, in a home game against New Rockford. Nine returning lettermen will form the bulwark of Coach Logue’s team. Of this number, however, only two boys remain from the 1946 backfield. They are Keith Kahl and Earl Greatsinger. The returning line includes Wes Hanson, Roger Engberg, Gordon Turner, Montel Romine, Tom Cousins, Bill Fruhwirth and Eddie Reisnour.
Russell Thompson, who was temporary assistant to County Agent Geo. F. Stewart this summer, leaves this week to resume his studies at NDAC, where he is a senior in agricultural engineering. While here Thompson devoted most of his time to the livestock spray program and farm labor placement.
Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Footitt and their children, Donald 12, Dianne 8, and Doreen 3, are now making their home in Carrington, having returned recently from Los Angeles, where they lived the past 6 years. Mr. Foottitt has taken over management of the meat department in the Red Owl supermarket.
The football field has been the object of vandalism the past week. Seven of the large bulbs which light the field for night games have been shot out. These bulbs cost about five dollars each and are difficult to replace. “Vandalism of this sort is needless and certainly has no part in a community when the cost of repair has to come from the same budget that provides personal physical protection to the individual players,” was the comment of Supt. Norman H. Hanson.
A BT-12 on a cross-country flight was forced to make a landing in a field south of Carrington at about 11:00 a.m. last Wednesday, during a rainstorm. It was stated by Ray Kadoun, manager of the Carrington Flying Service. There were three people in the plane, two men and a woman, enroute to Lansing, Mich. The group came to Carrington and contacted Kadoun. Next day, they were able to take off and resume the journey.

The Beryle Smith home near Chase Lake was destroyed with all contents, early Friday. Smith was home alone, was getting ready to go to work in Jamestown when he became aware of fire in the basement. Finding his telephone out of service, he went to a neighbors home to call for help. Woodworth firemen arrived to find the blaze out of control.
Before settling down to the routine of lesson preparation, conducting classes, preparing meals and dusting furniture that are among the numerous duties entailed in operating community’s largest industry, employees of the Carrington schools were luncheon guests of Foster County State Bank.
Jerry Goter is the superintendent of the Sunday School at Grace Lutheran Church in Carrington. Teachers working with him include Barbara Schroeder, kindergarten; Jean Reimers, first grade; Mrs. Bob Winning, second grade; Mrs. John Schaffer, third; LuAnn Schroeder, fourth; Mrs. Lyle Evans, fifth; John Paulson, sixth; Gene Doeling, seventh, and Mrs. Herb Witthauer, eighth.
Carrington Mrs. JayCees through help of Modern Woodmen of America Insurance Company will conduct a Bicycle Safety Week Monday, Sept. 18 through Friday, Sept. 22.
Mrs. Emma Hegney announces the engagement of her daughter, Ardene Bernice, to Terence David Ruchotzke of Winnipeg. A July wedding is planned.
There were 45 entries in the beef steers division for 4-H judging Friday at the Foster County fair. A Hereford from the Hertel Hereford Ranch of Edmunds, shown by Lynn Hertel, was named Grand Champion. Lynn is a member of the Pleasant Valley girls 4-H club and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hertel.

Carrington High School will retire its first ever sports jersey come Thursday night in a ceremony. Sheri Kleinsasser, played for the Cardinal basketball team in the late 1980’s and early 1990 and will be the honored guest for the evening. Kleinsasser’s jersey number 42-43 will be permanently retired and placed in a display case at the school.
The Carrington Gymnastics Club announced that due to the low enrollment numbers they will be forced to close the doors.
Residents of Carrington were treated to a rare occasion last week when the Budweiser Clydesdales complete with the Dalmatian riding high, made a parade appearance. Jerome Wholesale of Devils Lake brought in the Clydesdales to commemorate their 70th year in business.

Playing at the Carrington Youth Center - Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts in “Conspiracy Theory.”
Homecoming Week at Carrington High School is this week. Homecoming candidates are Luke Miller, Shaunette Dunn, Brock Kouba, Tera Ogren, Dustin Garber and Suzie Lura.
Foster 4-H winners at State Fair included Carrington youth Mandy Munkeby, as reserve champ outdoor eating, also 4-H project expo; Melissa Munkeby, 4-H project expo; Michael Munkeby, reserve champ electricity; Andy Jager, 4-H project expo; Jake Jager, 4-H pre-teen food fair, Missy Montgomery, grand champion beef showman, grand champion round robin showman, round robin livestock showman, champion senior 4-H hog showman and reserve champion lightweight market steer, Carla Dreher, McHenry was named overall champion senior showmanship for suffolk ewe, suffolk ram and shorn sheep, and Cristin Dreher, McHenry was overall champion suffolk ram and reserve suffolk ewe.
