Bittmann new police chief

Carrington's new police chief, Christopher Bittmann, brings 11 years of law enforcement experience to CPD.

Originally from Richfield, Minn., Bittmann received his peace officer training and associate's degree in law enforcement from Hibbing Community and Technical College in Hibbing, Minn. He then earned a bachelor's degree in natural resource law enforcement from University of Minnesota Crookston.

Prior to his arrival at CPD in July, he spent nearly nine of the past 11 years in neighboring Eddy County, as a deputy for the Eddy County Sheriff's Office two separate times. He first arrived in New Rockford in July 2011, where he served as a deputy until April 2014. He then spent 2 ½ years in Pembina County before returning to Eddy County in Dec. 2016.

He was hired as a patrolman for CPD in July 2022, after former Chief Brandon Sola was killed in a motorcycle crash. Now, he's ready to fill the gap and put his law enforcement experience to work in a leadership role for the first time.

"I look forward to working with the citizens and the officials within the other departments in Carrington," he said Wednesday. "My forte in law enforcement has been drug interdiction." He received an award for his work in 2017.

"I plan on bringing leadership and accountability, and I hope to gain everyone's trust in Carrington," he added. "I hope to guide the officers, and police with a common sense approach that is firm yet fair."

Bittmann lives on an acreage near the Foster/Eddy County line with his wife Courtney and daughter Rylan.
