CrossRoads Golf Club welcomed the rest of Region 2 membership to the second individual qualifying meet of the girls golf season Wednesday, September 7.
The Carrington Cardinals were unable to gain any new qualifiers at the meet, though Kacie Rexin matched her state-clinching effort from earlier in the season with an 82 over 18 holes.
To earn an individual berth in the state tournament, golfers must shoot a score of 87 strokes or less in designated qualifying events.
Other Cardinal varsity players at the event were Aubrey Neis (96), Molly Hansen (102), Sage Patzer (104), Kaley Kostelnik (110) and Carrie Hovdenes (127).
Junior varsity golfers played nine holes at the meet. The Cards' entrants in that portion of the meet included Aniston Hoornaert (45), Sydney Friedt (47) and Kenedy Trostad (50).
CHS finished behind Oak Grove and Kindred in the team standings.
At the Cottonwood junior varsity meet in Casselton Thursday, September 8, Trostad shot one of her better meets of the year with a 46 to take sixth place overall. Hoornaert shot a 51 and Friedt 52.
On Tuesday, the Cards traveled to Maple River Golf Course in Mapleton. Carrington broke through for second place, edging Kindred by one stroke, 393-394. Oak Grove won the meet with 363.
At Mapleton, Rexin took second with an 82, followed by Neis in sixth (98) and Hansen 10th (105). Other golfers to shoot were Kostelnik with a 108, Patzer 109 and Hovdenes 134.
JV results included Hoornaert winning that portion of the meet with a 44, followed by Trostad (50) and Friedt (52.)
Everything is coming to a head very quickly in the girls golf season, as the Region 2 Tournament was held this past Friday at CrossRoads.
While the individual qualifying score of 87 still applies, schools can advance to the state tournament as a team by placing in the top three in the Region 2 standings.
Even if a four-person team (with a maximum of six) does not place in the top three, they can still make the state field if they shoot a combined 60 over par.
At regional meets, players placing in the top 10 (including any ties) earn automatic qualification. In addition, a player can also qualify if they are within 10 strokes of the medalist's score.
