In battle of birds, Carrington wins in 4

With their starting setter busy lighting the State B golf world on fire (see related article on page 7), Carrington had a few early struggles getting consistent offense Tuesday night, September 27, against Ellendale.

Even without the services of Kacie Rexin, Isabel Wendel filled in very capably in her stead with 30 assists, and the local Cardinals took a four-set win, 19-25, 25-10, 25-15 and 25-22 in the East Gym.

In set one, the Cards had difficulty with Ellendale's height, led by middle blocker/hitter Christena Walker (four blocks) and their service game headed up by Ariel Hagen (four aces), which would put CHS behind the eight ball ever so slightly in a six-point loss.

But the Cards got their own power and reach into the game, with the right arm of Haley Wolsky and Emma Hone making impacts.

Wolsky would finish with 13 kills and Hone 12 more, and Hone also added four blocks at the net as well. Sophomore Edyn Hoornaert also had a very respectable offensive showing with seven kills, and Madison Johnson added six kills.

At the line, the Cards had 10 aces, led by Kennedy Wendel's four, and Allison Jarrett and Isabel Wendel had two apiece.

Back row play was active for Carrington. Four different players had double digits in the dig category, led by Mya Schroeder's 21. Isabel Wendel had 18, Wolsky 11 and Jarrett 10.
