Titans end on high note

The 2022 football season for Griggs/Midkota started with the carryover of a long losing streak, but has ended with two wins and promise that things could be looking up for the Titans.

G-M put all phases of their game together in the season finale Friday night, October 7, in Cooperstown, taking a 34-6 win over the Tri-State Tigers to end at 2-6 overall.

"For at least the last six years, our seniors have given everything they've had to the program," first-year Head Coach Ryan Dockter said. "The goal was to send them out with a 'W'. That was the mentality going into the week, and the team came out big."

Sophomore quarterback Brady Haugen used his whole offensive arsenal, connecting with seven different Titan receivers. He went 11-for-20 for 125 yards, and displayed his two-way ability by running for another 123 yards on 12 carries.

Haugen tossed a 28-yard touchdown to James Woodstead, and a 12-yarder to Kyle Johnson in the win. Additionally in the running game, Benjamin Edland gained 51 yards on 12 carries.

Dockter credited the G-M offensive line for the team's statistical showing, saying, "They gave Brady all day to throw, allowing him to show his patience in the pocket, and also enabled us to run for over 200 yards as a team."

The defense for the Titans was very stout, allowing just one Tiger score for the night. They accumulated six tackles for loss, two sacks, and forced three fumbles and getting a touchdown on a fumble return.

Woodstead also had an interception in the victory.

"All parts of the team really seemed to be working well together, and it was a great way to finish the season," said Dockter.

The coach noted that preseason prognostication had the Titans tabbed to finish last in 9B - Region 2, but the team outperformed expectations and is aiming to turn around the Griggs/Midkota fortunes in the upcoming years.

"We knocked off Enderlin earlier this season, and felt we could have beaten a few more teams too. Our kids have worked hard, and are starting to change the culture of Griggs/Midkota football.

"We'll miss our seniors, but they have helped lay the groundwork for what Titan football will become. Thanks to everyone for their support this season," Dockter said.
