Emergency manager, new radios top priorities

The Foster County Commission voiced their concern at their last meeting about not being able to find and hire an emergency manager.

During the meeting held on Tuesday, October 18, commissioner David Utke said there is more work than past manager Aaron Devereaux can handle the one day per week he works.

Devereaux resigned from the EM position several months ago, but has been working one day per week to keep the office up and running.

The board discussed a grant for sirens, which must be applied for soon, but there is no one able to watch for grants that are available.

The board decided to run the EM ad again in hopes of filling the position.

In other business:

• Foster County Road Superintendent Nate Monson reported that Butler Machinery did away with their Skidsteer lease program due to equipment shortage, so the county will have to make other arrangements.

• Utke reported that the repeater on the Foster County tower near Grace City, may need some work. He said it has been a long time since any maintenance was done on the repeater.

A motion was passed to pay up to $700 to have it repaired.

• Commissioner Becky Hagel suggested they send a memo to every county employee about the personnel policy dealing with accidents and/or injury.

Apparently there was an accident with one of the county vehicles and the auditor’s office was not contacted afterward.

The personnel policy states that employees involved in an accident must contact the auditor’s office within hours after the accident.

A motion was passed to change the wording in the personnel policy to add that an employee must be tested for alcohol and drugs after a vehicle accident.

• Utke reported that after the walk-through with EAPC Architects, they gave their opinion on repair for the old shop building.

• Utke said CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington Medical Center will be inspecting the ambulance building before their contract is negotiated.

• Finally Utke said at the SIRN meeting, he learned that new radios will have to be purchased for first responders or they will not have dispatch.

• Meetings with township supervisors and the commissioners will be held on November 16.

• Monson spoke about snow removal for the public health building.
