Mehring new clinic manager

After almost a year of vacancy at the position, CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington Medical Clinic and Urgent Care has a new manager.

Shannon Mehring took over in her new post on October 24, and is responsible for overseeing health care provider scheduling and other personnel as the multi-site manager for CHI clinics in Carrington, Devils Lake and New Rockford.

"I'm a people person, have good communication skills, and am driven and team-oriented," Mehring says of the positives she brings to the role.

The 1996 CHS graduate worked at the clinic for seven years previously as the reception lead. She also has experience as a small business owner, running the 10th Ave. Salon (now Studio Five) after graduating from RD Hairstyling Academy.

For the last five years, Mehring has had two different positions at Golden Acres Manor, working as the ward clerk/receptionist for two of those years and as the activities director for three.

Her schedule is a busy one, as a typical rotation for her involves travel between the clinics for two days one week and three days the next.

"Some of my responsibilities as clinic manager for the three sites include keeping up to date with policy and procedures in rural health manuals, and maintaining schedules for physicians, nurses, and receptionists," she said.

One of her goals is to provide awareness to those three communities and surrounding areas of the services that CHI St. Alexius Health offers.

"We have some of the best providers here," says Mehring, "and a wide variety of specialists. There's just something to be said for a small town, for the level of care that we can provide."

Along with hometown providers Dr. Michael Page, PA-Cs Brad Hoff and Mary Hoff and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) Chelsey Zeltinger, and Brittany Long, APRN, PMHNP-C, three other providers are available monthly.

Dr. Thomas Noah (urology) and Dr. John Hoyt (cardiology) visit Carrington once per month, and Dr. Brent Bruderer (general surgery) twice.

Shannon's husband, Scott, works at Garrison Diversion Conservancy District and has assisted in overseeing the pipeline project south of town. He also volunteers as a driver for the Carrington CHI St. Alexius EMS.

They have three children, son, Shae, a pharmacist in Larimore, daughter, Kadyn, a senior at the University of Jamestown majoring in elementary education, and son, Taylen, an eighth grader.
