The drives back and forth on Highway 281, along with being a multi-sport fall athlete and full-time student, didn't deter Carrington High School senior Jack Paulson from accomplishing the highest individual honor bestowed by another high school's athletic team.
Jack, the son of Matt and Tiffany Paulson, has been named Most Valuable Player for the Jamestown Blue Jays boys' soccer team for the 2022 season.
Playing for Head Coach Brandi Harty, Paulson finished his three-season varsity career for the Jays with six total goals, 30 shots on goal, one assist and 13 total points.
Along with those stats, he played with a bit more aggression defensively the past two years, and his on-the-ball tackles resulted in four yellow cards his senior season.
This past year, JHS finished with a 6-8-2 record playing in the Western Dakota Association (WDA), and just missed qualification for the state tournament.
Paulson split time between his love of the "beautiful game" and CHS football the past two seasons, where he starred as the team's extra point, field goal and kickoff specialist under Head Coach Kyle Smith.
He converted 31-of-40 point after touchdown (PAT) attempts (16-of-18 in his senior season), and hit two of six career field goal tries, with his longest a 34-yarder.
The past few years have allowed Paulson to gain experience with select soccer camps, and he has attended developmental events under U.S. Youth Soccer's Olympic Development Program (ODP). To that end, he has attended two camps in Kansas City, Mo., and one in Memphis, Tenn.
His future plans are to attend UND and major in either pharmacy or physical therapy.
