The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets hosted the Griggs-Midkota Lady Titans on Monday, December 19 for their first home game of the season.
This season looks different for the Lady Titans, who are short a senior athlete. Three days into basketball season, Andie Anderson suffered a knee injury, which ended her basketball career as a Lady Titan.
The Rockets were amped up and ready to take on the Titans. Out of the floodgates, the Titans were under full court pressure by the Rockets. This led to many steals and 21 points scored by Kelsie Belquist in the first quarter.
NR-S only allowed the Titans to score 10 points in the first quarter. The Rockets led, 32-10.
Second quarter action started the same way, with full force pressure by the Rockets with shots in by Belquist, Kaiya O'Connor and Ava Peterson.
Griggs-Midkota junior, Brienna Ehlers, swished a three-pointer, followed by a field goal to score the Titans' only points in the second quarter. At the half, the Rockets led, 50-15.
The third quarter brought more points for the Titans. Lauryn Halvorson swished two three-pointers at the top of the key, and Olivia Larson and Vanessa Vollmer each added points to the Titans' score, but even with that, the Titans were down, 68-29, at the end of the third quarter.
Non-starters for both the Rockets and the Titans began to play in the fourth quarter. Addysen Fandrich and Trysta Thumb were two of the Rockets' non-starters to score points in the fourth. The Titans weren't able to score any points, which meant the Rockets won, 75-29.
Leading scorers for the Rockets were Belquist with 34 points, O'Connor with 19 points and Peterson with 13. Halvorson held the most points for the Titans with a total of eight.
