Beginning its 24th year of service, the Canadian Pacific Railroad's Holiday Train made one of its 168 live stops Saturday, December 17, in Carrington.
The train returned to the Central City following a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, during which virtual shows were presented. The train's purpose is to raise money for local food banks during the holiday season, and since its inception in 1999, CPR has raised more than $21 million dollars and collected five million pounds of food for the communities the train passes through.
Carrington's Daily Bread was one of those food banks that benefited from the Holiday Train's visit, as they received a donation of $3,500.00 from Canadian Pacific. Concert-goers were asked to bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation if they were able.
This year's show was held in below-freezing temperatures at the 6th Ave. N. railroad crossing, with a sizable crowd braving the crisp, biting windchill to enjoy the musical stylings of Canadian country singer Kelly Prescott.
The Holiday Train's first stop was in Jackman, Maine, on November 23, and the final show in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, on December 18.
