Here's the buzz.
The New Rockford-Sheyenne Rockets traveled to Fessenden on Tuesday, Jan. 10 to take on Super Region 4 competitors, the Harvey/Wells County Hornets, in their nest.
After losing to H/WC at the annual CNDC tournament back on Dec. 1, the Rockets knew they had to work harder to push past them.
Kelsie Belquist and Kaiya O'Connor blasted out of the gates for the Rockets, with Belquist swishing two field goals and a free-throw and O'Connor swishing one field goal and one 3-pointer.
Harvey/Wells County freshman, Rachel Neumiller, was the lone scorer in the first quarter, with two field goals, two free-throws and one 3-pointer.
The Hornets were only down by one point after the first quarter.
HWC players started shooting more in the second quarter. Larissa Arnold, Braylee Keller and Neumiller were all found at the free-throw line at least once. Between the three, the Hornets added 11 points to the scoreboard.
O'Connor swished three more field goals for the Rockets, plus a field goal by Belquist. Lora Wobbema was sent to the line to swish two bonus free-throws.
At the half, the score was 20-20. Of course the Hornets and Rockets were going to make this a nail biting game.
The Rockets came out determined to defeat the Hornets in the second half. In just the third quarter, the Rockets scored 18 points to the Hornets eight. The Rockets now led 38-28.
NR-S senior, Madisen Myhre, received her fifth foul in the beginning of the fourth quarter, which led to playing time for Katie Allmaras.
Out of nowhere, Allmaras swished a 3-pointer and Rockets fans went wild!
For the Hornets, Emma Dockter swished a 3-pointer and was found at the line swishing two of four free-throws.
But the Hornets just couldn't sting the Rockets. The final score was 47-38 in favor of NR-S.
Belquist and O'Connor led the Rockets with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Rachel Neumiller was the lone Hornet to score in double digits with 24 points.
