Thunder falter in loss to South Border; rebound with win over N-G-S

At the top of District 6, it certainly appears that the upcoming tournament wars will likely come down to the wire, with three teams going tooth and nail for that all-important top seed in Region 3.

With a 59-54 win over the M-P-B Thunder on February 2, South Border showed they belong in the conversation of the district's contendership short list.

The Mustangs bumped their record to 10-5 overall and 3-0 in the district with the victory, while the Thunder's record fell to 9-4 and 2-2 at the time.

In nondistrict play from February 3, the Thunder took a 25-point loss to the Wilton-Wing Miners, 80-55, in Wilton.

Statistics from the South Border and Wilton-Wing games were unavailable at press time.

Last Tuesday night, M-P-B got back into the winner's circle with a district victory in Medina over Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter, 59-49.

Rylen Wick led the Thunder with 20 points, and Josh Moser added 14 and Sawyer Wanzek eight for the winners.

Three Imperial players scored in double figures, led by 16 from Trenton Erbele. Trevor Moos finished with 13 points and Tristan Schaffner 11.

M-P-B (11-5, 3-2 District 6) hits the home stretch this week with games against E-K-M Thursday night, February 16, in Medina, and a Saturday game in Pingree with the North Border Eagles.

The District 6 Tournament begins in Hazelton Friday, February 24, and continues Saturday and Monday, February 25 and 27.
