Sixth-seeded Griggs/Midkota had some tough sledding in their first round loss to Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier at the District 5 Tournament in Jamestown, taking a 57-22 loss.
However, the Titans extended their season with a convincing 54-12 loser-out victory over Barnes County North on Saturday, February 11, to earn the right to play Carrington (see related article) for a Region 3 berth.
In opening round action, Vanessa Vollmer was the leading scorer for the Titans with six points, and Kaylee Johnson had five points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Rebels' Mataeya Mathern and Kiara Jangula, later named to the All-District 5 Team, had 16 and 10 points, respectively. Mathern flustered the Titans with seven steals, and Jangula added four more.
Elimination game play was all Titans from start to finish, as they only allowed single Bison free throws in each of the first two quarters.
The top three G-M scorers against BCN were all Johnsons. Ryan Johnson led the way with 11, followed by Kylie Johnson with 10 and Kaylee Johnson eight. Lauryn Halvorson also had seven.
Senior Jayden Samek led Barnes County North with five points. The defeat concluded a winless season for the Bison at 0-20, and continues a three-season long losing streak since the program finished 14-8 in 2019-20.
