Carrington's Justin Jensen became the latest member of the North Dakota Wrestling Hall of Fame at a special ceremony held during the State Wrestling Tournament at the Fargodome Friday, February 17.
Jensen was a two-time state champion for CHS and Coach Kelly Hagel. He was a four-time state placer, placing third at 103 pounds in 1992, third at 119 in 1993, and was the state champion at 130 in 1994 and 145 in 1995. Jensen also helped Carrington win state team titles in 1992, 1994 and 1995.
In other individual honors, he was awarded the Mr. Wrestler Award for Class B in 1995, and earned two Triple Crowns in his high school career. He claimed six freestyle, and four Greco-Roman state titles in cadet and junior divisions, and was also a member of the 1995 junior national dual team champions and Greco-Roman national dual runner-up team that year.
He would finish his high school career with a record of 127-17, with 68 career pins. Jensen would go on to wrestle at UND and Valley City State, and was an All-American for the Vikings at 150 pounds, finishing eighth at the NAIA national tournament.
After college, he turned to coaching, where he has helped Carrington win two individual and two dual team championships in 2015 and 2016. He has also coached 21 individual state champions throughout his career.
Jensen currently resides in Carrington, running the family farm. He enjoys NDSU Bison football, camping, and trying to ice fish when wrestling permits.
