Listed among winners in an art contest in Tucson, Ariz., schools is Karen Beatruce Saxlund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Saxlund, formerly of Carrington. Karen attended schools in Haven Township and in Carrington before leaving for Arizona.
Frank Bourdon has been appointed manager of Thompson Yards, Carrington, to succeed N.A. Schmidt, who has resigned. Bourdon is already at work, but he takes over officially as of April 1.
Herman G. Kraus was re-elected president of the Carrington Parent-Teachers Association at the annual business meeting held in conjunction with the regular monthly meeting last Wednesday evening. Mrs. J.L. Sparrow was elected secretary and Mrs. J.R. Rusk, treasurer.
Richard Schoen, Carrington blacksmith, has the distinction of being the only man in the city who has remained in the same business in the same occasion for the longest period of time.
On March 20th, this year, Mr. Schoen observed the 30th anniversary of his coming here to establish his blacksmith shop on Main Street, and this has been his place of business ever since.
Foster County 4-H delegates attending the 36th Annual Achievement Institute at North Dakota Agricultural College this week are Arvilla Cook and Lester Black of Carrington, Darryl Pederson of Bordulac, Ronald Luttschwager and Donna Lyman of Grace City, and Marilyn Aasand, of McHenry.
On January 25th, at a candlelight service at 9 o’clock in the evening at the Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Roberta M. Short, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Short of McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Charles James of Fargo, only son of Mrs. C. James. The service was performed by the Rev. D. Olson.

Dianne Schlotman of Grace City is a member of the Valley City State College Women’s VI-Queen basketball team that compiled a record of 13 wins and six losses.
The Foster County Soil Conservation District Board honored one of its original members, Grace City area farmer Harvey Lyman, at a retirement party at the Fireside Inn last week.
Rick Geier, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Geier, Heaton, a 1969 graduate of Pettibone High School, and a senior at University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, has been accepted into the School of Medicine at the University.
Deborah Hallwachs became the bride of Michael Haugen at a candlelight, double ring ceremony performed by Rev. Chris Miller in the Federated Church in Carrington on Mar. 5. Mrs. R.A. Andrews was organist and accompanied soloist, Jerry Goheen. He sang, “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Announcement of the marriage of their daughter, Linda Louise, to Charles L. Hamm of Minneapolis, is made by the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Halverson of Glenfield.
Arlene Goter, student at Indiana university, Bloomington, was presented in a solo piano recital on Mar. 5. Ms. Goter is a student of Walter Robert, professor of piano at Indiana University and guest lecturer in music at the Conservatory of Music in Vienna, Austria.
Airman Joseph A. Straley, Carrington, has graduated at Lowry AFB, from the U.S. Air Force weapons mechanic course conducted by the Air Training Command.
Five members of the Foster County Wildlife Club have qualified as certified safety instructors in the N.D. Game and Fish Department’s Hunter Safety Program.

The Bismarck St. Mary’s High School Jazz I ensemble will perform a guest concert at the Carrington High School gym on Friday, April 3. Friday’s concert will feature several styles of music including rock, swing, shuffles and Latin.
Scott Birchall, from Australia, is on a three-year professional visa to research livestock waste management at the NDSU Research Extension Center. He was interviewed through video and offered the job.
Jeanne Rindy of True Value Hardware was named Employee of the Month for March by the Carrington Chamber of Commerce.
The Carrington Lions Club added a $1,500 donation to the Carrington Park Board for additional camping areas for the Armory project.
Doug Stokes will open Central City Service April 1, taking over the business from long-time owners, Jeff Hewitt and his brother, Jim Hewitt. The Hewitts have worked together on Carrington’s Main Street for over 30 years.
Sherman Montgomery and Ann Larson were crowned king and queen at the Senior Center during the recent Valentine party.
Carrington Health Center social workers, Jamie Heinley and Sandie Nicolai, were honored recently during Social Work Month. The two job share, and both work in the hospital, nursing home and swing bed components of Carrington’s Health Care facility.
Area births – boy, Carson Theodore born to Landis and Cathy Quam of Binford. 6 pounds, 11.3 ounces. Boy, Cody James, born to Larry and Dawn Weninger, Carrington.
Carrington High School’s Students of the Month for February include Kristen Clark, Mike Neis, Chris Kubal, and Samantha Larson.

Laren Suckut, St. Paul, was a houseguest of Lorance and Laura Suckut from Tuesday to Saturday. Laren was a dinner guest at the Neil Thormodsgaard home on Wednesday.
Several ladies attended the bridal shower for Heather Eckart Manson Sunday afternoon in the Church of God.
Joey Rexine spent Tuesday and Wednesday with his Grandma Leona and Grandma Dora in Bowdon. He was an overnight guest at Dora’s and then went on to Minot to visit during his spring break from college.
Bob and Delores Suckut went to Streeter to hear the Pea Pickers play in a church there.
