Sharon Ludwig benefit April 1 in New Rockford

On Saturday, April 1, the community is invited to a medical benefit for Sharon Ludwig at Buck-It's Bar in New Rockford.

Ludwig, a rural Eddy County resident, was caught up in a skid steer accident last October, suffering a compound fracture to the tibia and fibula in her left leg as it was caught under the track.

She was hospitalized for 10 days, endured seven outpatient surgeries, spent 100 days in a skilled nursing facility and a month in an assisted living facility. Now, she's living with her daughter in Orlando, Florida, as she continues healing.

Ludwig said she's made some progress since her accident and multiple surgeries, and is finally able to put a limited amount of weight on her left leg. However, there's still plenty of hard work ahead.

Ludwig is currently doing physical therapy with the help of an orthopedic doctor who specializes in limb salvage. The plan, said Ludwig, is to do six more weeks of physical therapy, at which point she'll hopefully be able to put full weight on her leg and return home.

A benefit for Ludwig is now being put together to help pay for that physical therapy.

Taking place at Buck-It's Bar, the event will begin at 6 p.m. with a delicious meal of homemade chili, sloppy joes and dessert. A raffle will then follow at 7 p.m.

For those that can't make it to the benefit, donations can also be sent to Ludwig's medical benefit account at the Community Credit Union in New Rockford, Carrington and Fessenden.

"A lot of people have been thinking of me and praying for me," said Ludwig. "I just think that I've been so fortunate to have a loving family that spent all this time when I was in hospital and a skilled nursing facility. I just can't be grateful enough for that and the friends that are still thinking of me."
