Lynn Delger

Lynn Delger, 88, passed away at his home surrounded by family on April 22, 2023, just in time for coffee with his loved ones that were there to greet him.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 27 at Parkway Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 26 at Parkway Funeral Service. A prayer service and time for sharing of memories was held at 7 p.m. Burial was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.

Lynn Delger, son of Harold and Eleanor (Peterson) Delger, was born December 8, 1934, in Bowdon, N.D., and attended Bowdon Public School.

On March 19, 1957, Lynn married his high school sweetheart, Lila Lee Neumiller. They started their life together in Bowdon, where they raised their three children. He and Lila recently celebrated their 66th Anniversary and enjoyed many good times together throughout the years.

Lynn worked for several farmers until starting his career as a custodian for the Bowdon School. Everyone that attended or taught school there knew Lynn and his infectious smile and kind heart.

In 1986, he and Lila moved to Bismarck where he began working for the state. He knew what it was to work hard and did not retire until 2017 at the age of 82.

Lynn loved fishing, hunting, caring for horses, horse racing, playing cards, and drinking coffee and Diet Coke. One of our favorite hunting stories is when he shot his biggest buck the day of his mother's funeral while in his suit and tie.

Since retirement, the day could not begin until he and mom enjoyed three games of rummy every morning for a buck a game, often coming out the winner! Then it was time for a nap, or two, followed by watching his sports, sports and more sports.

Lynn did a lot of things in his life but what he was most proud of was that of raising his family. He loved attending all his children's, grandchildren's and great-grandkids events over the years. Recently he was able to meet the newest great-great-granddaughter from England as well as his newest great-grandson, which brought great joy. His arms were always ready to welcome another and was so looking forward to another great grandchild this summer. He loved treating all with cookies, candy, ice cream and even a little caffeine.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Lila; his son, Dan (Laura); two daughters, Nancy (Lyle) Strickland and Stacy (Fred) Duppong; three sisters, Berty Klocke, Betty Mertz and Becky Hagseth; 12 grandchildren, Travis (Brooke) Strickland, Torey (Katie) Strickland, Tamara (Tim) Stinehart, Tanner (Caitlin) Strickland, Tara (Nick) Ternes, Tayla (Nash) Koch, Josh (Miranda) Reynolds, Derrick Reynolds, Lexi Duppong, Kaylee Duppong, Hayle (Zach) Hauser, and Erin (Mikey) Morris; 21 great-grandchildren Hunter and Kiara Strickland, Jasmine (Joe) Morrissette, Caleb, Zander & Parker Strickland, Kadyn, Kamdyn and Kynlee Stinehart, Karli and Karter Strickland, Sidney and Sullivan Ternes, Ayden, Rylan and Teagan Koch, Mason and Marleigh Reynolds, Knox Rishling, Oaklyn and Haven Hauser and a Morris baby expected in August; three great-great-grandchildren, Bridger, Kyler and Ember Morrissette and many nieces and nephews.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lee and Larry; sister, Bonnie Kleim; and newborn son, Timothy.

Go Rest High on that Mountain Grandpa! We love you forever!
