Lingering snow and field wetness has once again done a number on spring athletic schedules.
Softball
Carrington’s girls softball game with Thompson last Monday, which was moved to THS after originally being a home date, has been postponed to Monday, May 8. Times have been yet to be determined.
In its place, the team traveled to Minot for indoor games with the Larimore Polar Bears Monday and Northern Lights on Tuesday under the practice bubble at MSU’s Herb Parker Stadium. A brief recap of those games’ scores are on this page.
Last Saturday, Coach Brady Smith’s squad was planning to play in the Wilton Jamboree, facing off with Velva and Heart River as part of the eight-game slate.
Baseball
CHS and NR-S Athletic Directors Karla Michaelson and Elliott Belquist decided to cancel the April 28-29 Jamboree in both Carrington and New Rockford in order to prioritize getting their Region 3 games in the books.
This past Friday, the Cardinals and Black Sox were slated to play a split quadruple-header against Kidder County and South Border in New Rockford.
Carrington’s makeup game with LaMoure/Litchville-Marion is now slated for today (May 1), at 5 p.m. in LaMoure.
Track
On Saturday, April 29, the Cardinal and HWC Hornet track teams were scheduled to travel to Rugby for the Mariya Tate Bernhardt Memorial meet, weather permitting.
Another scheduled meet from last Tuesday, the Clark and Sharon Lloyd Invitational in Fessenden, was moved two days ahead to Thursday of last week due to track complex conditions, and the status of the meet was still unclear when this issue went to press.
Boys Golf
The Carrington boys’ golf team is still awaiting the start of their season, as course conditions throughout the area have not been favorable to get the spring meets underway.
Instead, Coach Brady Morgan said the team planned to participate in a simulated meet at Suite Shots in Fargo last Thursday. Results from that simulation will be published when they are received.
