Young Hornets do well at Nedrose meet

The Harvey-Wells County junior high tracksters competed at Nedrose on Tuesday, May 2, and came away with some nice results.

In the girls division, the Hornets finished in fifth place. Addisyn Faul led the way with a first place effort in the 100-meter hurdles, and a second place finish in the 200 hurdles. Emersyn Wolfe finished second in the 400 dash, and the 4x200 relay team of Rebekah Schimke, Aubrie Schindler, Wolfe and Faul also placed second.

For the boys, HWC finished in fourth place with 76.5 points. Christian Mertz set a new junior high record in the shot put with a winning throw of 39'5". Mertz also claimed the top spot in the discus with a throw of 114 feet. Westin Opdahl was a double winner, earning the top spot in the pole vault and triple jump, while Andrew Williams finished second in the 200 hurdles and Matthew Ongstad was second in the pole vault.
