Hornets sizzle at CNDC, Panther Booster meets

The Harvey-Wells County varsity and junior high track teams traveled to Rugby recently to participate in the Central North Dakota Conference (CNDC) Track and Field Meet. The meet was held on Tuesday, May 9, and was moved from Fessenden to Rugby due to wet field event conditions.

Along with many great results for HWC, leading the top of the list was the new qualifying of the varsity girls 4x200 relay team. The foursome of Christalea Wagner, Breanna Heilman, Rachel Neumiller and Kamryn Sanders raced to not only a first-place finish, but a qualifying time of 1:51.18, good enough for a state meet entry.

Other first place finishers on the day for HWC included Tallen Thorson in the 110 and 300 hurdles (both with qualifying times), and Gabe Allmaras in the high jump. The junior high event champions included Addisyn Faul in the 100 and 200 hurdles as well as the triple jump, Dylan Heitmann in the 100 dash, Andrew Willams in the 200 hurdles, Christian Mertz in the shot put and discus, and the boys 4x100 relay of Heitmann, Mertz, Easton Schuh and Andrew Williams.

The junior high boys team was the highest team finisher for the Hornets, as they placed third overall. The varsity girls and boys each finished in fifth place in what were very competitive team divisions.

Earning Stingers (personal records or PRs) on the day included Wyatt Korb (100, 200), Frank Richter (javelin), Noah Ziegler (4x200 relay), Avery Williams (high jump), Porter Johnson (shot put), Collin Meckle (discus), Jadyn Vollmer (pole vault), Harrison Lies (4x200 relay, javelin), Braylee Keller (javelin), Christalea Wagner (long jump), Breanna Heilman (200 dash, 4x200), Ava Haldorson (shot put, discus, Javelin), and Jenna Green (discus).

Panther Booster

Monday, May 15, saw the Hornets back in action at the Panther Booster Track and Field Meet in Rugby. This was a "last chance" meet, meaning that this was the last chance to qualify for the state meet before the regional meet, which was to be held on Friday, May 19, in Rugby.

Leading the highlights at the Panther Booster was sophomore Kayl Sieg. Sieg launched the javelin 155'3" to meet the state meet standard and qualify for the state meet, to be held on May 25-27 at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

The Hornet boys amassed 84.5 points to finish in the runner-up position to host Rugby. The Hornets who claimed titles at the meet included Tallen Thorson in the 110 and 300 hurdles, the boys' 4x400 relay of Noah Ziegler, Harrison Lies, Jadyn Vollmer and Tallen Thorson, and Rachel Neumiller in the javelin.

Earning Stingers for this meet included Dylan Heitmann (100, 200, 400), Carson Heilman (long jump), Noah Ziegler (long jump, 4x400), Avery Williams (high jump), Kayl Sieg (javelin), Aiden Hager (110 hurdles), Thomas Laframboise (100), Porter Johnson (discus), Keaton Keller (long jump), Collin Meckle (javelin), Alex Smith (pole vault), Quinton Deede (100, 200), Jadyn Vollmer (pole vault, 4x400 relay), Emersyn Wolfe (long jump, 200), Addisyn Faul (200, triple jump), Aubrey Thorson (4x100), Aubree Rudel (100), Rachel Neumiller (4x100), Madison Schimke (100, 100 H, long jump), Christalea Wagner (4x100), Rylee Jones (discus), Breanna Heilman (100, 300 hurdles), Ava Haldorson (javelin), Larissa Arnold (100), and Kamryn Sanders (4x100).
