The result of many hours of volunteer labor and waiting for the grounds to dry sufficiently for the high school team's schedule to line up for an opportunity, finally paid off Monday afternoon, May 15, when the new Carrington fastpitch softball field made its debut at City Park.
Fears were that the Cardinal softball team would run out of open dates at the end of their season, and would have to wait a second year to begin play in their new home. Fortunately, the field was in good condition for play after a last-minute groundskeeping session (though the area surrounding the field was still a bit saturated with water), and the Cards inaugurated their field with a game against the HWC Hornets. The Hornets would take a 16-9 victory over the home squad, stopping a four-game win streak for CHS that began at Midway/Minto on May 11 with a 25-8 win, and continued with victories over New Town (18-6) and Nedrose (14-4) at Fargo on Saturday, May 13. Carrington now sits at an even 6-6 for the season, and was the number six seed in the Region 2 Tournament which began in Thompson this past Saturday. They took on number three-seeded Grafton in the first round.
