Foster County Fair set: June 21-24

The 91st annual Foster County Fair will be open to the public Wednesday, June 21, through Saturday, June 24. The Foster County Junior Livestock Point Show will be at the fairgrounds Sunday, June 25.

Many of the entertainment features are regulars – the Mighty Thomas Carnival will once again bring the rides, lights and cotton candy all four days. Advance vouchers are a great deal again this year – the prices have stayed the same and the Super Pass is for all four days!

What's a fair without delicious food? Along with the carnival specialties and the burgers and pies that Trinity Lutheran is famous for, the Carrington Wrestling Club will return to the Community Activity Center to serve their fair food specialties. The Fargo Fillies Food Cart will also return and serve philly cheesesteaks, chicken phillies, Italian sausage and philly fries. Enjoy local favorites such as Duchessa Gelato.

Wednesday, June 21

Along with the carnival pulling into town, Open Class exhibits can be entered and will be judged that morning, merchant booth set-up will take place, and the Carrington City Library will hold story time right at the Fairgrounds. The Pet Show with 4-H and Open Class divisions returns. Barnyard Buddies Petting Zoo will start on Wednesday and continue through Thursday. New this year is The KR Balloon Factory, an entertaining event for the whole family which includes balloon twisting and much more.

The 91st annual Foster County Fair officially opens on Wednesday night with the Grand Opening and Fair Dedication honoring Tami Aljets and Jodie Davis. The night continues with musical entertainment by Mylo Hatzenbuhler.

Thursday, June 22

The first full day of Fair starts with the 4-H Livestock Show held under the pavilion. 4-H members will exhibit swine, sheep, goats, dairy and beef. The 4-H Livestock Premium Sale will be held at 6:00 p.m. with auctioneer Louis Halvorson. Activities for the day include the Carrington City Library story time and Daryl's Racing Pigs. New this year is The Feud and Name That Tune sponsored by Headlocks, which starts at 8:00 p.m.

Friday, June 23

Friday starts with the 4-H Livestock Showmanship Contest under the pavilion. The annual pinochle tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the merchant building with $500 in prize money up for grabs. Daryl's Racing Pigs will also race throughout the day. The pedal tractor pull will start at 5:00 p.m. for ages 4-11.

New this year are free Draft Horse Wagon Rides from 1-3 p.m. and Mutton Busting at 6:00 p.m.

A fun evening of outdoor entertainment begins with the Ranch Rodeo at 7:00 p.m. Contestants will compete in a variety of different timed events based on the type of work that would be done on a ranch every day. Wede Stein is the announcer and admission is free. After the rodeo, dance the night away with Boys of Summer, featuring a variety of genres. Admission for the event is free.

Saturday, June 24

Enjoy the final day of the fair with the Mighty Thomas Carnival opening at noon and get the most out of your four-day carnival voucher.

New events include the Spartan Race at 9:30 a.m., the Craft and Vendor Show which runs all day, Draft Horse Competition at 11:00 a.m. and the Foster County Jackpot Livestock Show at 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, June 25

The Foster County Junior Livestock Point Show will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to attract youth from across the state who will exhibit more than 150 head of beef, sheep, swine and goats. The show is one of more than a dozen sanctioned shows of the North Dakota Junior Points Show Association.

Every day

The commercial booths will be open Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Along with various booth drawings, the Fair Board has partnered with several local sponsors to provide daily drawings in the Commercial Building.

Kid's Family Package drawings are sponsored by Central City Grain and Central City Marketing and Processing, the Foster County Independent and Central Pharmacy. Beef Bundle drawings are sponsored by Barton Meats, Leevers of Carrington and Custom Kut Meat Inc. The Foster County Museum will be open every day during the fair; watch for signs.
