Wilma Kurtz
Wilma Alice Kurtz, age 90, of rural New Rockford, N.D., passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Sanford Health, Fargo, N.D., with family by her side.
Wilma's visitation was Wednesday, June 14 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., at Evans Funeral Home, Carrington, N.D., followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m., at Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford, N.D., with Pastor Rick Loewen officiating. Recorded music was "Sunday Morning Coming Down" by Johnny Cash.
Pallbearers were Robert Schaefer, David Schaefer, Grace Leichtman, Levi Leichtman, Ethan Leichtman, Mike Leichtman, Tyler Leichtman, Jason Vollmer and David Parkman.
Wilma was born on June 30, 1932, the daughter of Burdett and Eva (Fread) Kurtz. She was raised and attended Sheldon Country School. Wilma then attended New Rockford High School, where she graduated.
She went on to be the Eddy County Superintendent and was the Secretary at the New Rockford School from 1976 until retirement.
She had a love for flowers and could often be found tending to her flower beds during the summer months. Wilma also enjoyed animals; especially her dogs and cats that she cared for dearly. Wilma loved to fly with her nephew, Jay and her adventuresome spirit took them to many exciting places. She had many miles left in the tank for adventure even after hitting 85 years old.
Wilma is survived by her nephews, Jay Topp, Randy Kurtz, Lonnie Kurtz and Butch Kurtz; two nieces, Judy Mechtle and Eve McAvoy; many cousins and Baby Cat and Annie Dog.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arnold Kurtz; four sister, Francis Pearl McAvoy, Wanda Lee Kurtz, Marion Agnes Mechtle, and Phyllis Burdetta Topp; and two nephews, Joseph McAvoy and Don McAvoy.
