Babe Ruth: Big inning carries Redbirds past 'Sox

The Carrington Redbirds Babe Ruth team needed a bit of late-game magic on their side to get past rival New Rockford Thursday, June 15, at City Park.

The Redbirds overcame a 5-2 deficit with a six-run fifth inning, and came away with an 8-7 comeback win over the Black Sox.

In spite of struggles in the third frame, Taylen Mehring got the victory on the mound for the Redbirds. He worked 5 1/3 innings, giving up seven earned runs and 11 hits and notching six strikeouts. Ethan Roller pitched the final inning and two-thirds for the save.

Taking the loss for New Rockford was Skye Kramlich, throwing six innings and striking out four. He gave up eight runs, but just three of those were earned.

Redbird leadoff hitter Peyton Harrington went 2-for-3 in the game with an RBI, as did Jacob Boeshans (three runs scored) and Mehring (RBI). Roller also drove in a run, going 1-for-2, and Tate Wolsky had a hit, run and RBI.

Jameson Kutz added a hit and RBI as well for the 'Birds, and Max Whitman and Paxton Harrington scored one run apiece.

Easton Simon was 3-for-4 in the loss, and Alex Weisenburger and Dashyl Bichler each had two-hit games for the Black Sox.

The Redbirds' overall mark sits at 3-3 overall. They had games this past week against Thompson (three total) and L-A-W.

They return to action at Hillsboro/Central Valley today at 11:30 a.m., Hatton and May-Port-CG on June 28 (11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.), and Devils Lake on June 29 at home beginning at 5 p.m.
